ROBERT STANLEY (STAN) RICHARDSON Born March 4, 1926, Stan was predeceased by his parents, by his brother Grey, by his eldest son, Robert Douglas, and by his first wife, Margaret Frances (Peggy). Survived by his wife Florence (Nita) Taylor; by his brother, Hugh, and by his sister, Shirley Ross of Victoria; by his sons, William James (Bill), and Thomas Conner (Tom); and by his grandson, Rowan; as well as by his nieces and nephews, and by his daughter-in-law, Susan. Stan grew up in St. Vital, in the house in which he was born at 43 Rosewarne Avenue. He and Peggy married in 1950, and raised their three boys in Silver Heights, on Hearne Ave. In retirement, they returned to St. Vital, to the Vic Wyatt House. After Peggy's death in 2003, Stan found a second great love with another Vic Wyatt resident, Nita Taylor. They married in 2004, and lived together happily. Stan was amazed to have found a partner who was both companionable and dazzling, and he was happy to acquire new family members in the merger: Cathy, Charles, and Taylor. In 2012, after a series of health reversals, Stan moved to the Personal Care Home at Lion's Manor where he died on June 26, 2014. Stan received a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Manitoba in 1948. He spent most his long working life in the wills and estates department of Montreal Trust. Diligent, conscientious, scrupulous and hard working, he was loved and admired by his many clients and colleagues Stan was active in the United Church, and in the Fellowship Club. He enjoyed playing bridge, and he enjoyed playing the organ. He enjoyed a good single malt. He enjoyed walking and gardening and watching the comings and goings of the deer who graze the lawns of the Vic Wyatt House. He read a great deal, poetry especially, much of which he had by heart. Even in his deepening forgetfulness he was able to recite long passages of Robert Service. With gestures. He was an extraordinarily gifted wood carver. Over the years, he produced dozens of intricate pieces, many of which he gifted to family and friends. He was a cheerful person, slyly humorous, sharp-witted but never sharp-tongued. He was quiet, modest, self-effacing, uncomplaining, generous, and deeply principled. The loving care he gave to Peggy during her long illness was an inspiration. He was a very good father, a very good husband, a very good man. We will miss him. His journey through dementia was long and arduous and heart-breaking. We are glad for his release, and most grateful for the excellent and compassionate care he received at Lion's Manor Personal Care Centre, from all the staff, most particularly from the front-line workers, the nurses and health care aides on the third floor. They are heroes and saints. A celebration of Stan's life will take place at Meadowood United Church, 1111 Dakota Street, on Saturday, July 5, at 1:00 p.m. Reception to follow. Donations in memory of Stan can be made to Lion's Personal Care Centre, 320 Sherbrook St.,Winnipeg, R3B 2W6, or to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, R3T 9Z9.
