MARLENE JOYCE ZAPORZAN (PRUDEN) Peacefully with her children by her side, Marlene passed away on Canada Day July 1, 2014. She is survived by her daughter Tracy, son Jeff, and sister Carol Sabo. She was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, William (Bill) Zaporzan, and her brothers Ken, Lloyd, and Earl Pruden. Marlene was born in Winnipeg and destined to become a hairdresser. She came from a long line of hairdressers her dad, brothers and sister were all in the business. She enjoyed her work and friendships with her clients right up until her illness. Marlene loved to cook and see people eat and the Zaporzan kitchen was a place for camaraderie and a great meal complete with a heaping helping of her hospitality. She always said what was on her mind and there was never any question as to what she was thinking. She loved to laugh, tell stories and enjoy a glass of "woine." She will be sadly missed. The family would like to thank the staff at Riverview Health Centre for their care and compassion. Funeral service to be held Wednesday, July 9 at 2:00 p.m. at Gilbart Funeral Home 309 Eveline St. Selkirk, MB. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com

  • Marlene Zaporzan, you were such a rich part of life on Cameo. Famous among the neighbourhood kids for your hospitality (home or cottage), wonderful food (best chocolate banana cake ever), and subtle ways of letting us know we weren't getting away with anything (the 'Carol Burnett look'), through the later years of wedding showers and 'spa' lunches in your kitchen when Trace was in for a visit. So many memories to thank you for. You have been a wonderful part of our lives and forged many great memories. See you on the other side, Mrs. Zap. xoxo. • Marlene always put a smile on your face. I certainly hope there is a lot of wine and "cupcakes" where you are now. Will miss you. - Posted by: Shiela Eyolfson (Legion comrade) on: Jul 07, 2014

  • To the family of Marlene. I was shocked to read of Marlene's passing. We spent many fun times at Fitness First at NKCC in the 80's and 90's. I was Marlene's fitness instructor with my gang of happy dedicated participants who became my friends. We shared a special bond in friendship and love of fitness. That part of our lives ended in the late 90's when we disbanded due to my back issues. WE reconnected again at Good Neighbours Active Living Centre. She was a fun lady and we all sure enjoyed our love of wine! She will be sadly missed especially by all of you. Lynda Jones - Posted by: Lynda Jones (Friend from the past) on: Jul 06, 2014

  • Marlene was a big part of my life. She always made me feel so welcome at the cottage or in her home. I worry that kids these days are missing out on these wonderful friendships. The people who live next door. I have vivid memories of Marlene and bill. Carol and brownie. And of course my good friend Tracy. I was impressed with Marlene. After bill passed away and the neighborhood changed she went out of her comfort zone to embrace the new friends and activities that gave her life richness and joy. Wish I could be there to see you trace. Shell - Posted by: Shelley joyce (Friend and neighbour ) on: Jul 05, 2014
