OWEN ROLAND DETTMAN Suddenly, on June 29, 2014 Owen passed away at the age of 79 years at the Riverview Health Care Centre. Owen is survived by his devoted, patient and loving wife of forty-seven years Betty, his daughter Tannys (Chris) and son Mark (Jennifer) and four much loved grandchildren: Sydney and Riley (Bomek) and Jordan and Matthew (Dettman). He also leaves behind brother Hugo (Coralie), sister Eunice as well as many nieces and nephews. Owen was predeceased by his parents Roland and Laura Dettman and brother Jerry. A dedicated family man who always put family and friends first, Owen will be remembered not only for giving up his beloved past time (golf), bringing early morning cups of tea to wife Betty in bed, his volunteer work with the Manitoba Highland Dancing Association and the Scottish Pavilion but for being a devoted hockey dad. Those close to Owen will remember his inquisitive side that saw him jump at opportunities such as crawling around a Scottish coal mine just to see what it is like, walking the Scottish highlands or taking early morning walks on one of his many trips to the British Isles. Owen was proud of his family's accomplishments whether academically, athletically or otherwise. While he always understood the importance of competitive sport and supported any and all activities his children chose to pursue, he also made sure that his children knew and understood the importance of education, work ethic as well as personal and financial responsibility. Thanks for all the life lessons, support and memories, Dad!!! The family would like to thank all the staff at Riverview, especially those at CD1 for their kindness to both Owen and us. As per Owens wishes, no formal service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Riverview Health Care Centre, 1 Morley Avenue E., Winnipeg, MB, R3L 2P4.
