Lila was born and raised on the family farm southeast of Winnipegosis, MB. Lila's first job was an Elementary School Teacher at Jubilee S.D. and then at Odda at Red Deer Point. Lila's dream was to "see the world", so she joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. She worked at the Radar Trade in Canada and Continental Europe and then became a flight attendant, thus pursuing her dream of seeing the world. She flew with military personnel, hostess to Royalty and even the Prime Minister of Canada. This is where she met the love of her life; pilot William (Bill) Lewis of Surrey, England. Together they lived in Belleville, Montreal and lastly in Brockville, ON, where Bill passed away as a result of a plane crash in 1971. After several years of poor health Lila moved back to Winnipeg in 1976 to be closer to family. Until retirement, Lila was an Administrative Assistant to an Outreach employment agency for the physically disabled in Winnipeg. Lila enjoyed to travel and rarely missed a family event. Lila liked to keep up to date with what was happening in her family and friends lives. She kept daily journals of everyday phone conversations and events around the world. Lila enjoyed gardening and took great pride in taking care of her yard. Every summer her backyard was like a tropical garden with wonderful flowers and huge, lush green plants. Another passion of Lila's was volunteering. She volunteered for years with the Winnipeg International Air Show, Manitoba Marathon, MS Super Cities Walk, Big Bike Ride, Lupus Walk, but her biggest contribution was with the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba and with the Canadian Cancer Society. Lila was zone leader for both of these charities for numerous years. Lila passed just prior to receiving "The Big Heart" award recognizing all her accomplishments for the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. She did know of this award and we are all very proud of her. Lila was always a lady; in dress and in manner. Lila we love you and will miss you dearly. If so desired, donations in Lila's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society or to the Lupus Society. A celebration of Lila's life will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the Corpus Christie Roman Catholic Church in Winnipegosis, MB led by Father David Kowalski on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in the parish cemetery. Some of Lila's ashes will be buried with her late husband Bill Lewis in Brockville, ON at a later date. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website.
