ROBERT ARTHUR QUINLAN After a brief illness, Robert "Bob" Quinlan passed away June 27, 2014. Bob will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by daughter Christine (Charlie), son Thomas (Tobey), grandchildren Tana and Gavin, brothers Jim and Norman, Carole Quinlan, good friends Marcie and Ken, as well as nieces, nephews and extended family and friends across Canada. Predeceased by sister Sharon Larade and first wife Barbara Quinlan. First born of Arthur "Mike" and Margaret Quinlan, Bob arrived in Toronto November 20, 1937 and grew up in Barrie, Ontario. Life in the family home on Bayfield Street made for many fond memories. When not working at Pryson's Grill, Bob could be found at Barrie Central Collegiate, where he excelled at any sport that came his way. His passion for sports, both as athlete and spectator lasted throughout his life. Dad joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1957 and was first stationed in Winnipeg. Following a fulfilling career in electronics that took him to destinations worldwide, he retired to Winnipeg in 2004. He also spent several winters at his condo in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. His faithful travel companions, Ring Necked Doves CoCo and Gigi, were along for all his journeys. Dad supported the Ottawa Senators and later the Manitoba Moose. He then became a Winnipeg Jets season ticket holder and really enjoyed going to games with Ken, although he never relinquished his lifelong support of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Very few sporting events would escape Dad's view, be it live or on television. Two highlights were attending both the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta and the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. Dad began each day by solving the Winnipeg Free Press Jumble and ended it with a good book. In between, he filled his time with cooking and baking, trying many new recipes. Weekdays were highlighted with regular walks at Maple Grove Dog Park with Shasta. Dad also enjoyed condo life, which included Thursday afternoon billiards and volunteer Bingo caller. An annual highlight was the cottage week with Christine, Tana and Gavin. We shared lots of laughs and plenty of good home cooking at several destinations, most recently Rushing River. "Papa" was always game for just about anything we asked of him. He had one of the most agreeable personalities going and he was one of the funniest people we'll ever know. Heartfelt thanks to the Palliative Care Program nurses that visited Dad as well as the wonderful staff and volunteers of the Oncology Unit at the Victoria General Hospital. The kindness and care shown by Dr. Chris Ogaranko and nurses Eleanor, Karen and Claudette was very much appreciated. Cremation has taken place and burial will take place in Barrie, Ontario. Rest in Peace Dad. www.seasonsfunerals.ca

I was 22 when I first started working with Bob at Nortel about 18 years ago. One day I was complaining about work, and he said he loved working and that he felt luck to come to work. I'll never forget that! He was an awesome technician, and he was extremely reliable. I learnt a lot from him, and still hold him as an example in my mind. Best wishes to his family. - Posted by: John Withnall (Co-worker at Nortel) on: Apr 10, 2015

It is with great sadness that I heard of the passing of Bob Quinlan. I remember Bob as a calming voice and the voice of reason when it was in very short supply. A quick wit and a dry humour, Bob was always ready with a smile and a joke. A hard worker and one that could always be counted on, I remember Bob most on the ice. When I played with him over 20 years ago, he was my age now and I thought when I get to be as old as Bob, I want to be as good as he was. Not fast, but strong and crafty, if Bob didn't want you to get the puck, you didn't. I still recount that story to people to this day and I still aspire to be as good as Bob, not just on the ice. My condolences to family and friends on his passing and I hope that you can take comfort in the fact that he is remembered and that his life touched many. - Posted by: Gerry Ebata (Coworker Nortel) on: Sep 17, 2014

My condolences to everyone Bob as left behind..... Bob was a mentor to me in my years with Nortel semiconductor labs, and a great golf partner for many days we went out to play. We had great laughs together and I cherish many good times we spent over the years. In a sea of millions there always seems to be 1 or 2 people you connect too. It was a pleasure to have crossed your path Bob! - Posted by: Luc Carriere (Coworker Nortel) on: Jul 23, 2014
