CATHRYN LYNN STABOR
Born: Nov 13, 1951
Date of Passing: Jul 03, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCATHRYN LYNN STABOR November 13, 1951 July 3, 2014 Cathy has passed to be with her mother and father, Alexandra and Frank Stabor. Cathryn had Down's Syndrome and, while having to overcome many obstacles and serious health issues throughout her life, forged ahead in a positive manner with a sense of humour. She seemed to have nine lives. She started her education at Laura Secord School in kindergarten where it was decided she should attend a school for individuals with learning disabilities. Here she learned to read and write. Following she attended a workshop to which she was able to go alone by bus and was also responsible for another Down's Syndrome friend taking the bus to the workshop. Cathy lived with her parents for the majority of her life. After they passed, she entered three separate group homes. These placements were not successful as the staff could not cope with her determined personality. She then entered The Manitoba Developmental Centre (MDC) where she was nurtured in all aspects of her life. Here she made friends with residents and staff, forming a special bond with many, especially, Barb Bolack. Our family would like to thank Barb for her special devotion to Cathy as well as all staff members who were wonderful in caring for her. Cathy liked to tease and joke with staff and they reciprocated. MDC staff seemed to know how to work around Cathy's determined personality. Cathy was full of unique sayings, "Cathyisims". She called her brother-in-law Don, "Don-in-law". At MDC, Cathy had a full and happy life, where Marilyn and Don visited and oversaw her living arrangements. She leaves behind her sister Marilyn (Stabor) Craggs, brother-in-law, Don Moren, nieces Carey Craggs and Erin (Craggs) Argiloff, Erin's husband Evan and their children Hannah and Adam plus many relatives. Cathy's family are especially grateful to MDC for a special quality of life that she could not find during her early stays at group homes after the passing of her parents. Her family members are ardent supporters of MDC and wish the facility a vibrant and lengthy future. Services are to be held Thursday, July 10, 1:30 p.m. at the Manitoba Developmental Centre, Aspen Centre, Portage la Prairie, MB. Omega Funeral Home, Portage la Prairie is in charge of arrangements 1-800-303-4621. For directions to the Aspen Centre see the Omega website www.omegafuneralhome.com. Our Condolences go out to Marilyn & Don at this time of sorrow, and we would like to express our gratitude for the love and compassion that they both shared in their relationship with Cathy. The thing I remember most about Cathy was her genuine bigger than large" Teddy Bear" hugs that she would so lovingly share, with all of her cousins, whenever she came for a visit. Dearly Beloved Cathy...You are in a better Place and a Place within all of Our Hearts! Love cousin Alan & Shirley Drobot - Posted by: Alan Drobot (Cousin) on: Jul 07, 2014
