KEVIN CORRIGAN November 20, 1929 July 9, 2014 Peacefully, surrounded by family, Gerald Kevin Corrigan passed away at home on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 after a brief illness. Kevin was born to Phyllis and Gerard Corrigan on November 20, 1929. He went to Isbister and Hugh John McDonald schools after which he worked for CP Railway for 10 years. Dad enlisted in the Air Force in 1951, holding the rank of Leading Aircraftman until 1952 when he was honourably discharged in order to care for his ailing father. He went to Summerside, PEI for training and was stationed at Trenton and Montreal. Dad was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Norwood Branch # 43. He met our mother (the love of his life), Janna Corrigan (nee Bramer) in 1956 and they married May 4, 1957. Dad and Mom were blessed with their three girls, Colleen, Janie and Dawn Krista. His family was everything to him and he wasn't afraid to show it. Dad, Mom and Colleen moved to British Columbia for work and to be closer to family. In 1960 they moved back to Winnipeg where they settled. Dad went to work at General Bakery (later McGavin's Bakery) where he worked as a Driver/Salesman until his retirement. As a boy, Dad loved to play soccer and later found a passion in snooker and billiards, at which he excelled. Before he met Mom, he supplemented his income, winning many games at pool. As an adult he played on teams for the Royal Canadian Legion where he won many trophies and mentored many players. He delighted in teaching his children and grandchildren how to play. Dad had two sisters: Colleen who died as an infant, and Dianne who survives him. Dad's best friend, Bert Luff was an important and special part of his life from boyhood until the end. Dad lived his life as a kind, honourable, generous and loving man, who was loved and respected by many. Dad was a very humble man, never seeking recognition for himself and always grateful for anything done for him, saying "it's a big help". Dad was predeceased by his loving wife, Janna, parents, Gerard and Phyllis Corrigan, sister, Colleen, parents-in-law, Johan and Janna Bramer, brothers and sisters-in-law; John and Johan Bramer, Jenny Webber, Joe Webbink, and Riek Kuilder. Dad leaves to mourn his daughters, Colleen Holloway (Morley), Janie Corrigan, Dawn Krista Christenson (Stephen), grandchildren, Jenna Backus (Jim), Kevin Holloway (Nadine), Kathleen Christenson (Joël), Korey Christenson, and Carly Christenson. He will also be dearly missed by his sister Dianne Gasparetto (Elio), sister-in-law, Diane Bennett, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was especially touched by the recent visit of Dianne and Elio. We are grateful for the kind and compassionate care given to Dad and all of us. Thank you to Dr. Lee Cummings, Lenka, H.S.C. Emergency, Wards A4 & D5, Palliative Care Program (nurse Kelly), and all our family and friends whose love and support have given us strength and sustained us. We, as a family, feel so blessed to have lived this journey with our Dad and Pop filled with such peace, grace and love. Prayers will be held Friday, July 11 at 7:00 p.m. and The Rite of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, July 12 at 10:00 a.m., both taking place at Christ the King Church, 847 St. Mary's Rd., Winnipeg, MB. Rev. Fr. Renato Pasinato presiding. Interment to follow at Glen Eden Cemetery, 4477 Main St., West St. Paul, MB. In lieu of flowers, if they so desire, friends may donate to CancerCare Manitoba or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Glen Eden Funeral Home & Cemetery 338-7111

  • So sorry for your loss. Kevin will be sorely missed by his billiard colleagues. I only knew Kevin for the past 12 years but I found him to be a gentle and caring individual who certainly had talent at the pool table. Kevin was one of my favorite players in the Veterans' English Billiard League and I always looked forward to chatting with him during league play. RIP my friend.
