Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES (JIM) MELVILLE WILSON Sadly, Jim Wilson passed away peacefully on July 11, 2014 at the age of 76. He will be missed by his wife Sylvia, daughter Christine, son-in-law Jake MacLeod, grandchildren Rowan and Quinn MacLeod, sister Jane Mulder, nieces Karen Schram (Rob) and Susan Christie (Bob) and cousin Carole Henderson. Jim was born in Edmonton, AB and lived in Vancouver, BC and Arden, MB before moving to River Heights in Winnipeg in the 1940s. He graduated from Kelvin High School and then joined the Delta Upsilon fraternity while attending the University of Manitoba. In 1958, he graduated with a Diploma in Agriculture. For many years Jim led the ultimate bachelor lifestyle, indulging in his desire for fast cars, thrill-seeking antics and carousing with friends. He owned many cars during his life, his favourites being his 1965 Austin Healey and 1957 Ford Mustang. In the 1960s, Jim was an exhibition skydiver with the Pegasus Sky Divers. He performed 100s of jumps with his club for crowds in many cities, including San Diego, CA. He also obtained his private pilot's license and joined the Winnipeg Flying Club where he enjoying flying small planes for many years. During his spare time, Jim loved driving speedboats and water-skiing with his friends at his cottage at Echo Bay on Lake of the Woods. In 1975, he settled down and married Sylvia. Jim worked for Manitoba Telephone System for 35 years, starting out as a telephone cable splicer and working his way up to the Manager of Construction Services in the Winnipeg region. After retiring in 1994, he enjoyed golfing, downhill skiing, duck hunting and travelling to warm destinations including the island of Bora Bora, which had been at the top of his travel list for many years. Jim was always quick with a smile and a joke. He filled his own life, and the lives of those around him, with laughter, merriment and enthusiasm. He will be sorely missed. A private interment service will be followed by a public reception to commemorate Jim's life at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue on July 21 at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. I worked for Jim as an employee since 1973 and later as a Manager under his guidance. Jim was always a straight shooter and you immediately took a liking to him. For years after he retired Jim was a special guest at the Construction office Christmas party and it was always more fun with him around.
