RICHARD (RICK) SYDOR
Date of Passing: Jul 15, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRICHARD (RICK) SYDOR It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Richard (Rick) Sydor who passed away suddenly at home in the morning hours of Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at the age of 64. Rick is survived by his wife, Lana, son Nathan (Christie); mother Hilda, sister Nancy (Ron); brothers Bob (Colleen); and Clark, sisters-in-law Daren and Cathy, brothers-in-law Will and Joe, niece Alyx, nephew Ryan, and many other nieces, nephews and extended family members. Also a special thank you to the Tabas and Miguez families for their support during this difficult time. Rick is predeceased by his father Peter. Rick was very proud of son Nathan and daughter-in-law Christie. He was extremely happy to have been there and play a part in their wedding. Rick had quite a colourful life where his passion always shined for his two loves eternal - cars and music. His love of cars began at a young age and carried on until his final day in the form of a 1930 Ford Model A Coupe which he fully restored. He was in various car clubs throughout his time, leaving behind a string of friends who shared his passion for all things fast and loud. Alongside his infatuation with cars was his love for all types of music which led to him being a drummer in a number of bands. He always spoke fondly when remembering his band mates and the crazy times they all had. Rick worked in many different fields throughout his life with the longest being in the Maintenance Department at the Canada Safeway Warehouse in Winnipeg. Fresh out of retirement, he lived life with a joie de vivre that even teenagers would envy. His friends will always remember him as Mr. Fix-It - the man to call if you need help. Rick had every tool known to humanity (as well as some that he cobbled together himself). Rick was an amazing man who was always surrounded by people because everyone wanted to be around such a happy person who was always so selfless - not to mention the fact his laugh was insanely infectious - even to himself. He leaves behind many close friends and relatives whose lives were enriched by his very presence. A Celebration of Life service will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 24, at Canad Inns Polo Park, 1405 St. Matthews Avenue, Ambassador Room 2 with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Rick's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation and D'Arcy's Arc. 204-782-3541

I am so saddened to hear of Rick's passing and I know of many other musicians who are and will be saddened also. We played together for several years in the band "Pembina Highway" and then about 10 years later in a band called "Mesa Canyon Band". In both bands was Rick's friend from high school Steve Mulhearn. We had so many good times and met up with so many other good musicians as we were the core of the band and traveled to many towns in Manitoba to play gigs in the early 70;s. Some of those people are now in Kelowna and will miss him, and like myself, appreciate the time we had to enjoy his musicianship and kind company. My condolences to Lana and Nathan and all those who knew Rick well and were part of his Family. Rest in Peace. - Posted by: Alan Merrilees (Friend, fellow musician) on: Aug 06, 2015

I was devastated when Chris told me that Rick had passed. Such a kind man with a really good sense of humor. What a beautiful mix between Rick and Lana (another truly kind person). I can say that Rick tried always to help me "fix" my broken old VW rabbit and Lana, kind soul that she is, took Chris under her wing at all times --- its the old adage "it takes a village raise a family" All of us back in the days with Deb, we were all blessed with happiness and kindness. Lana and Nathan, both Chris and I really want you to know how much we remember what wonderful people you are. Namaste - Posted by: Val Sayers (friend) on: Jul 22, 2014

Lana, Nathan and Christie, words can not express the sadness we feel to hear about Rick's passing. What fantastic memories we will share with jokes and one liners that would come out of Rick's mouth at Aunty Daren's dinner table or wherever the celebration was we could always count on Rick to have a great sense of humour, wit and get the laughter rolling! We miss him, pray he is watching over all of you and the family. Rick will be missed by anyone that has met him. We are so sorry to hear about the passing of your loved one. I am sure that you will miss his smile as I never saw him without a huge smile on his face. You would automatically smile even if you were having a bad day as you could not help it. That's how it affected you - Posted by: Roger Murray. Lana and Nathan, I am so very sorry to hear of Rick's passing. You chose a wonderful picture of him with that big smile he had for everyone, and it will be missed by many. He had such dedication and passion for whatever he chose to do, be it at work, or helping friends, or working on his never ending, always improving '30 Ford, which was a beauty to behold, hope you keep it Nathan. I'm sure there is a little bit of Rick and his helping hands that endeared him to us all, which will be remembered for a long time. Take care Lana and Nathan. Rick, you will be missed my friend - Posted by: janis (friend/co-worker) on: Jul 20, 2014

I am so sad to hear that Rick has passed. He was the kindest and most sweetest man I ever knew. He loved his family with such intense passion. He raised a beautiful young man to be exactly the same, and you see Rick in Nathan's actions and life choices everyday. The world was a better place with Rick a part of it. I consider myself blessed to have been able to call him my friend. Much Love to Lana, the Shining Light of Rick's Life! May the healing process be gentle to you my friend. - Posted by: Deb Amos (Friend) on: Jul 20, 2014

What sad news to hear of Rick's untimely passing. When we were young teens we started a band called "Rich & the Poor Boys" (Rick was "Rich"). We next played as "Lord Invader and the Penetrators" before he and I headed off to St Boniface to join "The Web" complete with our orange 1940 Fargo School Bus painted with black webs all over it. Our final band was with Laurie Mustard, Al Platsko, Frank Roberts, Rick & me. We were "The Assembly" and played community club dances around Winnipeg in the mid to late 60's. In 1965 we travelled to Jasper together to caddy on the Jasper Park Lodge golf course thanks to Rick's Dad working for CP Rail at the time. What a great summer we had. I later reconnected with Rick through e-mails and the odd visit to Winnipeg. He was a sweet guy, with a kind soul. I will truly miss him. He was one of a kind.........Rick Scott. - Posted by: Rick Scott (old friend) on: Jul 19, 2014
