GERALD RICHARD PRETTIE January 10, 1974 - July 23, 2014 Suddenly, after hanging on for almost three days, we regret to announce the death of Gerald Richard Prettie, better known to everyone as Pon, on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of 40 years. Left to forever cherish Pon's memory are his mother Anita Parker; step-father William Parker; step-mother Rose Prettie; sisters Crystal Gunn, Misty-Ann Prettie (Doug), Charman Prettie, Alexis-Jerri Prettie, and Bobbie-Jo Parker; brother William Parker; daughters Abby-Gail Richard (Nikko), Caitlin Purdy, Catrina Purdy, and Raven Prettie; sons Gerald Richard and Richard Wyss; grandchildren Nevaeh, Jace, and Jessari; girlfriend Melanie Williams; as well as by numerous aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends. He was predeceased by his father Gerald Ross Prettie; sister Valerie-Jane Delaronde; grandfather Richard Prettie; grandmothers Ramona Prettie and Lena Delaronde; Godmother Valerie Lavallee; as well as numerous aunts; uncles; cousins; and friends. Pon made a lot of bad choices in life and always regretted hurting the people that meant a lot to him. When he was in good space, Pon would help in any way he could, he was always good to share a laugh with; Pon had a great laugh! His witty no-holds barred commentary is something that will be greatly missed; he had a nickname for everybody. Pon lived in Winnipeg and was very talented in sports and drawing. On Thursday, July 31, 2014 Pon's Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. in Wojcik's Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main Street at Manitoba Avenue, Winnipeg. A reception will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the Indian and Metis Friendship Centre, 45 Robinson Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba. He will be buried with his Father in Brookside Cemetery at a later date. Special thank you to the Surgical Intensive Care Unit doctors, nurses and staff for the care they provided. My dad, I miss you so much wishing you was here but i know deep down inside you're in a better place. It was sad to hear you go but in reality buddy you're in a safer place now. I remember you growing up when Melanie first took me to Rossbrook House, lost contact with you until last summer when you became Mel's boyfriend :) She was happy and I knew she loved you because of the smile you brought to her face and being there for her through her hard times, we will help her get through this Pon ;) last I seen you was when you both came and babysat for me. Our prayers to the family, we both knew Pon from our Rossbrook days. You know Pon was a good friend, if you didn't see him in the crowd he would always come up to you to say hi. After what we had we had remained friends. I'll miss your teasing and did have a soft side which I was happy to witness. I'm in shock. And will have nothing but the memories to cherish. It still hasn't sunk in my big brother. Today's been a week since we were told that you would not make it. I thought of you everyday since you left us and the only thing helping me get thru is knowing that you will not be alone and that you get to be the first to reunite with our sister. I miss and love you my big brother life most definitely will not be the same having your big head show up out of no where just to see if I'm ok. Pon you were a true character in life...you always brought a smile to myself and Lloyd when you came to Rossbrook. We saw you growing up and have seen a wonderful man emerge. You always talked like a tuffy (jokingly) but deep down inside we knew you always had a kind heart and a gentle spirit. We will truly miss your laughter,jokes and kindness Pon.
