JOSEPH GERALD THOMSEN Joseph Gerald Thomsen, the youngest son of Frederick and Marguerite Thomsen, was born on August 4, 1959, in St. Boniface, Manitoba. Frederick was a farmer and his mother, a teacher. His brothers, Thomas and Richard and sister, Marcia, remember him fondly as a fiercely independent and insatiably curious brother. His friends and family remember him as a loyal, honourable person who regaled many dinner parties with his grand visions and idealism, and much humour and wit. He was married to Consuelo Francolini in September 1989. Their children, Ariana and Gabriel, were born in 1990 and 1992. His second wife Patricia, whom he married in August, 2006, deeply misses her best friend and anchor. His children miss their patient, intelligent and loving dad who nurtured their enthusiasms for sports, great books and corny jokes. Joe's strong roots, intellect and work ethic made him an expert in agricultural economics. His consulting practice, The Thomsen Corporation, achieved a nation-wide reputation in agriculture, food, biophysical, and environmental projects. He was justifiably proud of an excellent 25 year track record. Joe had both a Bachelor and a Master of Science, Agricultural Economics (1985) from the University of Manitoba. Joe died suddenly of a massive heart attack while cycling a very challenging peak in his beloved Gatineau Park on Sunday, July 6, 2014. Small hills were not for Joe. He passed in the fresh air and sunshine that he loved.. Joe was larger than life with a laugh to match, and he was firm in his desire to be remembered with joy and happiness, not sadness. All are welcome to celebrate Joe's life at 2:00 p.m., August 4 at Kingsley Cemetery followed by a gathering at the Rendezvous in Somerset. There will also be a celebration in Ottawa, September 20, 2014. If friends so desire, the family asks that donations be made in Joe's memory to the Kingsley Cemetery Fund, Box 157, Somerset, MB R0G 2L0.

In a weird twist of fate Joe ended up doing some work with my daughters and we had just reconnected. So sorry to hear of his passing, he influenced people far and wide, and will be missed. - Posted by: Marcel Hacault (Classmate) on: Sep 26, 2014
