Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHILDA MARIE POVEY (nee SWANSON) 1918 - 2014 With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother (granny) and great-grandmother, Hilda Povey. In the early morning hours on July 26, 2014, Hilda passed on to join her beloved husband Albert. Hilda was predeceased by her brothers, Ivan and Bill, and her grandson Byron. Hilda was born on December 19, 1918, the first born to Ingeborg and Bernhard (Ben) Swanson. She was born and raised in Inwood, Manitoba. Hilda remained in Inwood, helping to raise her siblings after her mother's passing when she was 11, until she met her husband Albert at the Winnipeg Beach dance hall, on the boardwalk. They were married and she moved to Winnipeg. They settled in the West End first on Burnell Street and then Dominion Street, where they raised five children. Left to mourn her passing are her five children, Marion, Ivan (Sigrid), Beverly (Mel), David (Ruth), and Wayne (Geri). Hilda also leaves behind a legacy of 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren, and Hilda's sisters Pearl, and Doris, as well as her brothers, Bruce (Valerie), Larry (Brenda) and Douglas (Doreen). Hilda's love and nurturing of her family were first and foremost in her life. Her greatest joy was spending time with family, over a meal, playing cards or listening to stories of their lives. She always made time and attended countless activities of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Hilda's selflessness was felt by all, she never let you leave her house hungry or with an empty pocket. Hilda's honesty, integrity, values, and loving nature, made everyone she met feel welcome and comfortable. The family would like to thank the staff at Sturgeon Creek II for all their assistance and care during Hilda's stay and after her passing. You made her transition seamless, and the family always felt welcome. We also extend thanks to the staff at the Grace Hospital in the emergency department and on the 5th floor, for their care and compassion. A funeral service celebrating her life will take place at Neil Bardal Inc., 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery) on Thursday, July 31 at 1:00 p.m. Pallbearers in attendance: David Povey Jr., Stephen Povey, Melinda Kramer, Denise Cool, Brent Povey and Cory Brandson. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald Street, Suite 200, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3L 0K6.
