VERONIKA KOMOR (BERNHARDT)
Born: May 05, 1928
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVERONIKA KOMOR (nee BERNHARDT) 1928 - 2014 Much beloved mom to Helga, mother-in-law to Mike Leaist, and oma to Andrea and Alex. Words cannot express the loss we feel with her passing. Veronika lived a full life. She was a source of strength to all around her. Veronika was born in rural Hungary, May 5, 1928 the middle child of five. She and her sister left in 1944 and headed to Germany due to the approaching war. Veronika was 16. By God's grace, all the family were eventually reunited in Germany. In 1954 she boarded a ship, travelling alone to Montreal and then on to Winnipeg. The family had decided to immigrate and Veronika was selected to go first. She met future husband Paul Komor on the ship. Winnipeg was the chosen destination due to its German Seventh-day Adventist Church. She and Paul married Christmas Day 1955 and one child, Helga was born to them. Veronika's parents and three siblings came to Canada as well; two brothers settling in Vancouver while the rest of the family made lives in Winnipeg; one brother remained in Germany. Initially working in household, in later years she was head of housekeeping at West Park Manor Personal Care Home. Veronika was an ardent cook, always able to have a feast available along with incredible desserts. She was an accomplished knitter and skilled at anything she undertook. Life was busy with work, travelling, and church involvement. Family was the primary focus and there were countless outings, always including family and friends. Veronika remained close to all of her family as well as to Paul's. Her grandchildren, Andrea and Alex, were especially dear to her and she would make trips to Calgary to visit each year on their birthdays. Husband Paul passed away in June 2001 after an illness for which Veronika was a doting caregiver. Also previously deceased are Veronika's parents Anton and Anna Bernhardt, brothers Johann Bernhardt January 2008, Anton Bernhardt February 2013, and sister Regina Hergenroeder December 2013. Veronika did not let life's hardships define her. She became a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in 1950 and remained a pillar of the church for all of her years. Also remembering Veronika are many family members: brother George Bernhardt (Eva), nephews Karl, and Otto, nieces Monika, Evelyn, Elsie, Teresa, Birgit, and families, as well as the abundance of friends she had. Veronika had a loving and giving spirit, and was a rock for her family. Viewing will be held at Mountain-Andrews Seventh-day Adventist Church, 377 Andrews St. on Thursday, July 31, 2014, 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Funeral Service to be held at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. on Friday, August 1, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the same location. Mom, you will be so deeply missed. Glen Eden Funeral Home & Cemetery 204-338-7111

My deepest condolences to the family. Mrs. Komor taught me how to work and specifically, how to clean when I worked under her every summer for about 4 years at West Park Manor. I've often thought of her over the years and how much I appreciate her patience and care in working with us young students every summer. She acted gruff and serious but really cared about us and we could tell. Thanks Mr. Komor! - Posted by: Danny Kwon (friend) on: Aug 08, 2014
