BIRDIE AILEEN (PEGGY) RUTLEDGE (nee MANUEL) August 3, 1924 - July 28, 2014 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Peggy Rutledge on July 28, 2014 at Victoria General Hospital at the age of 89 years. Peggy was predeceased by her parents Arthur and Gladys Manuel (nee Gainford), her husband Carman Andrew Rutledge and many cherished aunts, uncles and cousins. Peggy will be lovingly remembered by her son Craig Rutledge (Sharon), daughter Lori Fillion; grandchildren Jason Fillion (Tara), Diane Wilkes, Jamie Fillion (Manon); great-grandchildren Camry and Karsyn Wilkes, as well as many lifelong friends. Peggy was born in Athens, Ontario and grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba. As a young girl she took an interest in fashion and the arts. She loved reading and going to the movies. Peggy attended Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. After graduating she was employed at Eaton's where she held a variety of clerical positions. In 1945 she met Carman on a blind-date and they were married in 1946. They welcomed their first child Craig to the family in 1951, followed by their daughter Lori in 1955. The family enjoyed many summer vacations at Clear Lake over the years. In 1958 the family moved from the West End to Windsor Park where Peggy resided until her passing. Peggy had many interests; painting, sewing and spending time with her family were foremost. She had a keen eye for fashion and was well known for her ability to design and create her own quality clothing. She enjoyed playing board games, doing the daily crosswords, having parties in the summer house, reading, watching movies and playing ping-pong with grandson Jamie. She will be remembered for her terrific sense of humour, her perfected recipes and for her caring nature. She loved sharing her family history, collecting turtles and indulging in her special little treats. Her greatest joy in life was visiting with her three grandchildren Jason, Diane and Jamie and her precious great-granddaughters Camry and Karsyn. She was a loving and supportive grandmother. GiGi will be missed. A sincere thank you to the staff at the Victoria General Hospital ER. Memorial service will take place on Saturday August 2, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB with inurnment to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. www.chapellawn.ca 885-9715
