Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGLADYS W. SOURISSEAU (nee KASKOW) It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gladys on July 29, 2014. Gladys is survived by her sons: Robert and Debi (Winnipeg), Ken and Theresa (Calgary) and their children Madeleine (Ottawa), Matthew (Toronto) and Hannah (Ottawa), Don, his wife Joy Simpson (Winnipeg) and their son Duncan (Lethbridge), Kevin and Rene and her children Kylie, Madison and Amber (Tijeras, New Mexico). She is also survived by her siblings Eddie Kaskow, Stella Bayko, and Joe Kaskow and his wife Linda, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Gladys was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Adrien in 2009 and her parents Michael and Stefanija Kaskow. Gladys was born Wladyslawa Kaskow on September 21, 1927, in Podwolocyska, Poland. She came to Canada with her parents in 1929 and eventually settled in St. Boniface where she grew up and attended school. Gladys worked a variety of jobs after school from soda jerk, to wiener skinner, to bookkeeper. In 1949 she married Adrien, the fellow from down the street. Two years later the boys started to arrive and Gladys became a very busy stay at home mom. Together, Gladys and Adrien raised four sons. In 1975, when Adrien accepted a position in Roswell, New Mexico, Gladys packed up her two youngest sons and moved with him. Mom always gave of her time freely and donated thousands of hours as a volunteer at her church and local hospitals. Although Dad always joked that when they first got married she couldn't boil water, over time she became a wonderful cook and incredible baker. Gladys and Adrien spent 34 years in Roswell, before returning to Winnipeg in July, 2009. Mom and Dad loved to travel. Over the years they visited such places as: Hawaii, England, Scotland, France, Australia and New Zealand. They also visited many sites throughout North America from Alaska to Nova Scotia. Her one regret was never having a chance to visit Vienna, but she was listening to Strauss the day she left us. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff on the 2nd floor at Misericordia Place and to the staff at Cornish 5, Misericordia Interim Care for their kind and compassionate care of our mother over the past two and a half years. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 5, at Misericordia Place, 44 Furby Street. Parking on the street is limited. Parking is available in the Misericordia Parkade on Sherbrook Street but due to construction the elevator is unavailable. Reception to follow. A private family interment will take place at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. If desired, donations may be made to the Misericordia Health Centre Foundation, 99 Cornish Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3C 1A2 (www.misericordiafoundation.com); Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10-120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2 (www.alzheimer.mb.ca) or to a charity of one's choice.
