MICHAEL JAMES HART 1947 - 2014 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of a truly great man, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother Michael James Hart. Michael was the quintessential "people person". A man who embraced his work (Arctic Co-op Ltd.) and those he worked with, but at his core was driven by his unconditional love of his family. The Arctic played an instrumental role in his life. The genuine nature of its people and freedom of its space was the perfect fit for him. Michael's compassionate and caring personality knew few boundaries and was exemplified by the patience and time he often showed to those going through a challenging time. He always viewed the world from a "glass half full" perspective. This provided him with a clear outlook on life and some of the issues it dealt the people he cared about most, his family and friends. Michael was guided by his faith and the values instilled in him by his loving parents who predeceased him, Dr. and Mrs. WJ Hart. Michael truly believed that in the end, all that mattered was kindness to others and the rest would take care of itself. Left to mourn his passing is his loving wife Mary Nirlungayuk, his four sisters Barbara, Daphne, Jill (Don) and Elisa (Chris) and his numerous relatives and many great friends. His legacy will live on through his five children, Ryan (Reverly), Sienna, Zachary, Stephanie, Victoria and his four grandchildren Camryn, Holden, Abigail and Emelia. A service celebrating Michael's life will be held on Wednesday, August 6 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the W.J. Hart Memorial Endowment Fund at St. Boniface Hospital. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. www.chapellawn.ca 204-885-9715

Condolences & Memories (23 entries)

  • I had a dream last night that something had happened to Michael. I checked the obits today and was very saddened to see Michaels name. I was a close friend of Jill's while growing up in E.K and as far as I can remember he was my first crush. He was a great guy, my parents thought so as well.. I so sorry for you family's loss and wish I had known about this sooner - I would have attended the service. - Posted by: Linda Flood (Malmgren) (Old friend from E.K.) on: Feb 23, 2016

  • Saddened at hearing this news late. Michael was a key player many years ago bring Victoria Jason and then myself to Kugaaruk where we worked to re-introduce the kayak. His unflinching optimism and fearless foresight started a process I think continues today. All those in his family and community will remember him for all the ways he was always there smiling and extending his hand! - Posted by: Phil Hossack (Friend) on: Dec 10, 2015

  • My husband, Tex, met Michael while taking Rehab at the Wellness Institute back in 2003. They clicked and kept in touch with each other until Tex died in September, 2013. I had a beautiful email from Michael after I had let him know of Tex's death. I am so sorry, Mary, that I did not know that Michael had died until I saw his name in the St. Boniface quarterly "Believe" where Michael's name appeared in the "In Memory" section. Please accept my condolences and as a wise lady once told me, we never forget, we learn to cope. - Posted by: Sally Hamm ((Friend)) on: May 28, 2015

  • We were saddened to hear the news of Mike's sudden passing. Our condolences go out to Mary & the kids. I can remember my first dealings with Michael in 1997. I was fairly new to the Co-op system & Mike was very instrumental in providing much needed guidance & assistance in my early years. He was always willing to lend a helping hand & to let you know that help was just a phone call away. Rest in peace Michael. • I lived next door to Mike for quite a few years and I used to babysit Stephanie and Victoria for Mike. I must say he was one of the most kind and caring men I have ever met and an amazing father. My condolences to the family, I miss the girls and Mary deeply. I'm sad he cannot meet my son. I remember when the family came to visit after I had my first child, sadly that was the last time I got to see him. • I am deeply saddened and shocked to hear the news about Mike. My thoughts and prayers are with Mary and his kids. I hope you are all staying strong and remembering his love for you all and his love of life that will help you through your grief. I will always remember him for making my transition to Winnipeg an easy one and I always knew that if I ever needed anything being so far away from family that I could have turned to Mary or Mike for that. He will always hold a special place with me and for that I am forever grateful. Stay strong and know that you have a lot of people praying for you all. - Posted by: Stephanie Adams (Former Co-worker) on: Aug 06, 2014

  • I was shocked to hear the news about Michael; he was such a caring and compassionate man. At first I was filled with sorrow, but after reading all the comments, I had a slight smile on my face. Michael has touched so many people across the country, and has made a difference in so many lives. Though he will be greatly missed, he will never be forgotten. I will always remember how he was always there, and willing, to help someone out. As a "glass half full" type of man, I raise a drink to his name. • I first meet Mike when he hired me to work for Koomiut Co-op in Kugaaruk, Nunavut. This started a friendship that has lasted more then twenty years. A better friend you could not ask for, although we did not get together nearly as often as we should have, always thinking tomorrow. Now there will be no tomorrow here on earth for Mike, but I will always have fond memories. One of my favorite memories was a day in Kugaaruk, when I went into Mike's office and he told me a fax had came from Darlene at Finning quoting on $10,00.00 worth of parts for the Cat D7G dozer. He said, I just took that fax and crumpled it up and threw it in the garbage. I told him, that's okay Mike, I already ordered them. He gave me that classic Mike look, rolling his eyes back and shaking his head. Mike was one of a kind, I have never meet anyone who loved family more then he did. At work, I know he always gave 110 percent and was so liked in the Arctic and everyone he had the pleasure of knowing there. You will be lovingly missed my Friend Dale Slagerman - Posted by: Dale Slagerman (Friend) on: Aug 02, 2014
