LEO KAFKA June 6, 1924 - August 2, 2014 It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our loving brother and uncle Leo at the Beausejour Hospital with family by his side. Leo was predeceased by his beloved wife Bernadette in 2012, also by eight brothers and loving sister Mary, nephew Wilfred and niece Donna. He leaves to cherish his memory sisters Lilly Herda, Jane (Helmut) Beck, brothers Bill (Sarah), Joe (friend Judith), Henry (Joyce), Gerry, Ken (Sandra), devoted nieces Violet, Shirley, Burma, special friend Mike Shier (Tannis), and many nieces and nephews. Leo was born and raised in Buchan, MB. He worked in the gravel pits at Seddons Corner and for his dad driving truck. He joined the Air Force in 1943 and served until demobilization in 1946. Leo worked on most Manitoba Hydro projects, operating heavy equipment. He met the love of his life Bernadette and they married in 1976. They lived mainly in Winnipeg and Beausejour. Leo was the most devoted and loving husband a woman could ask for. He was totally committed to caring for his wife for the last 20 years. Leo moved into East Gate Lodge in January, 2013 and we are very thankful for the exceptional and compassionate care he received, especially from the staff on Shamrock Lane who became like extended family, to name but a few Lois, Robin, Lili, Angie, Edith, Heesook and many more. The family would also like to thank Dr. Van Rensburg, Dr. Khan and the staff at Beausejour Hospital for their care and compassion to us all during this difficult time. A service will be held on Saturday, August 9 at 11:00 a.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue E., Beausejour with interment in the Polish National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to East Gate Lodge, Box 1690, Beausejour, MB R0E 0C0, The Canadian Cancer Society or an animal shelter of your choice.
