GREGORY WALTER PRYSTAYKO Gregory Walter Prystayko died suddenly at Blue Lake Provincial Park, Ontario on August 7, 2014 of a heart attack. He leaves behind his loving wife of 42 years, Judy Prystayko (nee Cook), his only son Jonathan (Manon) of Calgary, his sister Tessa (Alan Cunningham) of Vancouver, and his favourite mother-in-law, Gladys Cook (Hadaller). He is predeceased by his father, Walter Prystayko, his mother, Lenora Prystayko (nee Skibo) and his father-in-law, Robert Cook. Greg was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on January 12, 1948. He lived in St. Boniface and Windsor Park for the early part of his life, but moved to Dugald in his teens with the rest of his family. Greg's 30 year career was with the Manitoba Telephone System, working as a lineman, cableman, in the control centre, and in the engineering department until he retired in 1996. Greg's lifelong passions were motorcycling and travel. He put hundreds of thousands of kilometers on eight different Honda motorcycles travelling and camping all over North America with his friends. Each year he travelled to Mesa, Arizona with Judy to continue his hobbies away from the snow. Greg's other favourite destinations were Hawaii and anywhere a cruise ship goes. It was fitting that Greg's end came peacefully while he was doing exactly what he loved, while on a motorcycle camping trip with his friend. A celebration of Greg's life is to be held on Thursday, August 14, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Oakbank United Church, 582 Balsam Crescent. Motorcycles and riding gear encouraged as there will be a memorial ride afterward led by Jonathan. Many thanks to Errol Eschuk, Greg's travelling buddy, park staff and fellow campers of the Blue Lake Provincial Park, the OPP (Dryden Detachment) and EMS. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Association. Greg's travels continue. www.seasonsfunerals.ca

  • So very sorry to hear about Greg's passing...he was such a kind sweet guy. I worked with Greg in 1987 at MTS, on the trans canada fibre network, drawing plans for Greg, one of the Manitoba engineers. We made lots of field trips throughout eastern manitoba ...and the trips were always very entertaining and enjoyable, as Greg would always tell stories of his and Judy's travels and he loved to talk about Jonathan. He really loved Judy and Jonathan! Keep hold of all those great memories and know he is still travelling! Sincere condolences to Judy and Jon and all his motorcycle buddies. - Posted by: Louise Long (co-worker) on: Aug 14, 2014
