Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRUTH VIOLET ROBERTS (nee HILDEBRAND) Sadly, the family of Ruth Violet Roberts announces her peaceful passing on August 3, 2014. Ruth will always be remembered and cherished by her loving husband of 60 years, Arthur, her three lovely daughters Darlene (Blair), Diane, and Doren, and three handsome grandsons Cody, Will, and Bryn. Ruth is survived by her siblings Albert (Gladys), Arthur (Judy), Emily (Ralph), Velma (Joe), Ken (Vicki) and numerous nieces and nephews. Ruth was predeceased by her parents, Adolph and Alvina Hildebrand, sister Edna, niece Marcella, and nephew Wayne. Ruth was born May 9, 1930, in Snowflake, Manitoba. She moved with the family to Langruth at the age of 16 and then to Winnipeg at the age of 20. She met Art at Searle Grain shortly thereafter, and they were married on May 1, 1954. They lived in Norwood and Ruth stayed home looking after the girls until Doren started grade school, upon which she rejoined the workforce and eventually retired from the Manitoba Superannuation Board in 1990. The end of her work career started a new chapter in her life, as her loves of quilting, bowling, puzzles, and grandkids were able to take a more prominent role in her life. Ruth always kept a special spot in her heart for the family cottage at Grand Beach, where she spent many summers hosting family and friends. During their retirement, Ruth and Art kept a busy social life involving bridge, bingo, Goldeyes games and other social events that even her teenage grandsons didn't think they'd have the energy to follow themselves. Famous for her onion pickles, Ruthie never met a stomach she didn't try to fill at any of her and Art's famous Christmas Eve parties. The family would like to thank the amazing staff at the Misericordia Health Centre Cornish 6 and Pembina Place Personal Care Home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to the charity or organization of one's choice. A celebration of Ruth's life will be held Monday, August 11, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway, with Rev. Bruce Miles presiding.
