CHARLES ROY LANGER 1928 - 2014 With love and sadness the family of Charlie Langer announces his peaceful passing at home. Charlie will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Pearl, daughter Cheryl Langer (Dr. Gord McTavish), son Brian Langer (Terri Dyck), grandchildren Chelsea (Curtis), Alan (Dana), Reid, Aimee and Hunter. Charlie was predeceased by his parents Anna and Carl Langer, sister Del (Louis) Schoepp and Max. Charlie was born in Langenburg, Saskatchewan and moved to Winnipeg to take his grade 12 at United College. He went on to graduate as a Civil Engineer in 1950 from the University of Manitoba and enjoy a successful career at Cowin Steel. He took great pride in anything he did, enjoyed being with friends and especially with family. His grandchildren held a very special place in his heart. He loved to spend time with them, listen to their antics and make pancakes or waffles after any sleepover. Rossmere Curling Club was his second home for curling, pool, cards, coffee and socializing and it was not uncommon to see him there most days. All throughout his life he curled, bonspieled, organized draws, leagues, junior curling and followed his children and grandchildren enthusiastically throughout their sports and interests. As his own kids were growing up there were camping and fishing outings, trips to Clear Lake, Madge Lake, Gull Lake, road trips and in 2000 Grandma and Grandpa took their grandchildren to DisneyWorld. Charlie and Pearl travelled extensively on their own as well as with family and friends. Cruising was one of their favorite holidays and enjoyed with Fran, Bill, Berny, Ben, Del and Louis. Charlie was a proud and generous man with integrity and looked after his family throughout their lives and careers. He was a man of his word with a strong handshake who loved to laugh and tell or hear a good joke. He will be greatly missed but will remain forever in our hearts and memories. In deep appreciation the family thanks Dr. Carl Duerksen, the Palliative Care team and the Reverend Karen Lumley. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 16 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Interment and reception to follow. • Pearl, Cheryl, Brian and Family Our deepest symapathy to you at this very difficult time. I do remember the time that Charlie was so kind to take us to the amazing park in Winnipeg while my mom, sister and I with her kids were waiting for our flight back home. We had a lovely time. I know my mom (Grace) always had stories she shared and mostly with Del on some of the memories they had. It has been a very hard year for all. Memories are something we have forever. Love Rosemarie, Donna and Richard Carr - Posted by: Rosemarie Carr (Family) on: Aug 15, 2014

  • Dear Pearl, we enjoyed cruising with you and Charlie and being your table mates, seeing you at the Wellness and visiting: we were sad hearing you were packing up your house and moving to Charleswood. However, we followed you in short order, and have now moved ourselves. Our thoughts are with you at this sad time, Pearl, and we hope that memories of your life together with Charlie will comfort you. Sincerely, Anne & Uli. - Posted by: Uli and Anne Thenhaus (Cruise friends) on: Aug 13, 2014

  • Charlie & Pearl and my parents, Bill & Peggy Moore, were lifelong friends. I have so many extremely fond memories of Charlie & Pearl going back to the early 50's when I was a young boy of about 5 or 6 I guess. Of Charlie and Pearl taking my sister Jackie and me to the beach. Of Dad and Charlie taking me to the golf course with them. Of Charlie taking a mighty swing and his driver flying out of his hands and landing what seemed to little 'ol wide eyed me must have been about half way to the green. Of sitting on Charlie's lap in his car and him letting me honk the horn by pushing the gigantic chrome horn ring on a steering wheel about the size of a hula hoop. No seat belts or car seats back in those days. Of Charlie driving really fast because he said he was worried about running out of gas but if he did he'd be going fast enough to coast to the next gas station. Of going to watch Mom and Dad at the weekly mixed 5 pin bowling league at St. James Bowling Alley they belonged as did Charlie and Pearl. Of watching terrified pin boys scatter for their lives when they recognized Charlie about to let loose upon them like the ball from a muzzle loading cannon. Of the bowling pins flying in all directions some even landing one or two alleys over. Of visiting Charlie in his office at Cowin Steel and behind the closed office door talking about those times and laughing. We never got tired of doing so regardless of how many times we reminiscenced. Whenever we met by chance (not nearly enough) over these past 60+ years his genuine happiness to see me (as I was him). Thanks for the memories, Charlie. R.I.P. - Posted by: Ross Moore (Son of Bill & Peggy Moore, long time friends of Charlie and Pearl. ) on: Aug 12, 2014
