Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMURIEL C. WALKER With sad hearts we announce the passing of Muriel Claire Walker (née Walton) on August 8, 2014. Muriel, formerly of Whytewold, Manitoba, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family. Muriel was born in Reading, Berkshire, England in 1920 and immigrated to Canada as an infant. Her family settled in the north end of Winnipeg where Muriel graduated from St. John's High School. She went on to work at Eaton's and United Grain Growers as a comptometer operator. In 1946 she married the love of her life, John (Jack) Walker and had two daughters. Muriel, Jack and their girls spent many summers building and enjoying their cottage at Whytewold. Muriel loved the cottage so much, she would later take it as her permanent residence. Muriel and Jack also enjoyed travelling, visiting much of Canada and the United States in their trailer following Jack's retirement from the Winnipeg Police Service. Muriel continued to travel, even in her later years, visiting family and friends from coast to coast. She especially enjoyed her bi-yearly visits with her dear friend of 90 years. Muriel was predeceased by her loving husband Jack and her two sisters, Evelyn Walker and Myrtle Herbert. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Lynn Walker and Brenda Gardiner, her granddaughter Kathleen Gardiner, her nieces Heather (Donald) Chennells and Susan (Matthew) Gradt, her nephews Patrick (Shelley) Herbert and Wayne Herbert as well as numerous great-nieces and nephews and life-long friends, in Canada and abroad. Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 18, 2014 at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery). In lieu of flowers, if so desired, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3L 0K6, the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB, R3T 9Z9 or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
