SANDRA RUTH GRIENKE (nee REIMER) March 11, 1943 - August 8, 2014 Suddenly, on Friday, August 8, 2014, at the age of 71, Sandra passed away in her home. She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her husband Norman Grienke, daughter Valerie Thiessen (Mark), grandchildren Leanne and Andrew Thiessen, and brothers: David Reimer (Kim, Steuart and Kacie) and Tim Reimer. Sandra was predeceased by her father Ernst Reimer on July 28, 1977, and her mother Anna Reimer on April 3, 1998. Sandra was born in Winkler, MB and resided in Winnipeg most of her married life. Primarily a homemaker, Sandra was a skilled seamstress and worked at various part time jobs, though family always remained her main focus. She was always quick to lend a hand, in any way possible. As part of a military family, Sandra grew up in a variety of locations in Canada before settling in Steinbach where she met Norman, her husband of 50 years. Sandra lived a very active lifestyle, including entertaining family and friends in her home, celebrating special occasions, snowmobiling with family and friends, annual Grey Cup parties, trips to the beach and Lake of the Woods, as well as attending Goldeyes games. She remained active in the community, volunteering at MCC, and meeting regularly with the Red Hat Society and the Southeast Women's Network. Sandra also kept busy with crafts that included folk art painting and making shower presents, including the most frequently requested and appreciated hooded bath towel. Travelling was always a highlight with destinations that included Canada's East and West Coasts, Alaska, Las Vegas, Churchill, Texas, California, Hawaii, Mexico, and St. Pete Beach, Florida, as well as Calgary, Edmonton and Niagara on the Lake for some of Andrew's squash tournaments. A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, August 18, 2014. at 11:00 a.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 162 Hwy 52 West, Steinbach, Manitoba. Cremation has taken place. The family would like to extend their thanks to the doctors and staff at CancerCare Manitoba as well as the Palliative Care East Wing 3rd floor at Riverview Health Centre. A special thank you to family and friends; whose love, prayers and support have been invaluable. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba. To say that Sandra was a family friend is a bit of a misnomer. Even though Sandra was not directly related to me (being the cousin of my cousin), it always felt like she was family. I was a young girl when I met Sandra, who was a little older than I, but I always thought she was so dignified and classy, back then, and she met her illness with that same dignity. I will miss seeing her at Pat's family get-togethers. She and her family remain in my heart and prayers. - Posted by: Shelley Marion (Family Friend) on: Aug 16, 2014

I will remember my friend Sandra for many things but especially for having been the best care giver for my daughter. Her positive outlook on life when dealing with her personal crisis was and is an inspiration which has had a powerful impact on all who have known her. Rest in peace my very good friend. I will miss you. - Posted by: Ghislaine Lavergne Trampe (A friend and a long time neighbour.) on: Aug 13, 2014
