Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDEBRA LYNN SANDBERG (nee JOHNSTON) March 17, 1953 - August 15, 2014 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Debra on August 15, 2014 after a long battle with cancer. She will be forever missed by her husband Wayne; her sons Devon, John Aaron (Katherine), Denys (D.R.), mother-in-law Anna, sisters Carol (Tom), Billie (Gerry); nieces Whitney (Andy), Ashleigh (Coltyn), great-niece Keira and especially her granddaughters Zoey and Aubrey who were her pride and joy. Debra was predeceased by her parents, William (Bill), Margaret (Greta) and father-in-law Norman. Debra met Wayne in the early spring of 1968 while walking in the alley behind Walker and Rathgar Avenue in Fort Rouge. She was 14 years old at the time, and Wayne was 16. A short time later Debra turned 15 which narrowed the gap in their ages. Debra told her two girlfriends Claire and Colleen whom she was walking with at the time that she was going to marry that guy! Sure enough, three days after her 18th birthday in 1971 they were married. During their 43 years of marriage they raised three sons. Devon born in 1979, John in 1983 and Denys in 1987. She was caring, compassionate, kind, forgiving, a great sister, devoted wife, mother and an outstanding grandmother. Her great sense of humor and her sense for unselfishness, always wanting to help others will never be forgotten. Throughout her life there was never anything more important to her than family. The family has many people to thank for their good thoughts, prayers and support, you know who you are. Sincere thanks and appreciation to the medical staff at the Beausejour Hospital for their care and compassion during this difficult time. In keeping with Debra's wishes cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba. It just seems that it was last week when I dropped off garden produce to your family before heading to Calgary......but of course it is coming on 11 years. So sorry to hear of Debbie's passing and wishing you and the "boys" our condolences at this most difficult time. Memories of the "boys" and your big dogs make me chuckle....especially cleaning partridges on the back deck.
