WINNIFRED (WIN) DUTSON (nee CADE) 1922 - 2014 Peacefully after a short illness, Win passed away at the Grace Hospital on Wednesday, August 6, 2014. Win was predeceased by her husband Ernie, Brothers Fred and Jack, sister-in-laws, Jean and Muriel and brother-in-laws Cliff and Gord. She leaves to cherish her memory her children and their families; Marjorie (Dr. Glen Lowther) Winnipeg, Jennifer (Chris Powell), Spencer and Lauren; Judy (Rae Thomson) Oakville, Cindy (Jason Cousin), Robbie and Matthew, Jackie (Bert de Vries), Cole; Dorothy (Bruce Croghan) Winnipeg, Josh (Alyssa Samm), Scott, Melanie; Ernie Dutson (Shannon) Elie, Danielle and Wesley. Win is also survived by her siblings and spouses, Edie, Charlie, Bob (Val), Ted (Pat), Joan, Nora and Ken (Shirley) as well as many nieces and nephews. Win was born in Winnipeg, raised in Stony Mountain, and then returned to Winnipeg in her teens. She met her husband Ernie at Deer Lodge Hospital where she was working. They married in 1947 and moved to Portage la Prairie where they raised their family. While primarily a homemaker, Mum worked at Campbell Soup for a few years and volunteered for many organizations including Girl Guides of Canada, the Women's Auxiliary for St. Mary's Anglican Church and the Helping Hand. She loved to golf and was a member of the Portage Ladies Golf Club for many years and the Assiniboine Golf Club after she moved back to Winnipeg in the fall of 1998. Win was a dedicated member and held several positions including Noble Grand with the Ruth Rebekah Lodge #3 in Portage la Prairie and later the Ruth Rebekah Lodge Elizabeth #52 in Winnipeg. For a number of years, she was active in the St. James Seniors Group and participated in the provincial seniors' games for Golf, Lawn Bowling and Shuffleboard. She also loved to bowl and she belonged to many leagues in Portage la Prairie and Winnipeg. Mum had an active social calendar, playing cards weekly, bingo at the ANAF and weekly breakfasts with family at Perkins. Win was a conscientious letter writer and she kept in faithful touch with her many friends and family members around the world. But first and foremost, Win was Mum, Grandma, and Grandma-Great. Her family meant the world to her and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. She ensured that every holiday and family birthday was an occasion for her entire family to get together. This could mean a huge family dinner, a BBQ, the annual lake weekend, a family golf game, or a bowling party. Inevitably, the evening would be capped by her sharing a drink and beating the clan at a spirited "crazy (card) game". She loved us to pieces and we will do our utmost to carry on her legacy. As per Mum's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 25, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the War Amps of Manitoba or the Children's Wish Foundation. • “I know for certain that we never lose the people we love, even to death. They continue to participate in every act, thought and decision we make. Their love leaves an indelible imprint in our memories. We find comfort in knowing that our lives have been enriched by having shared their love.” Thank you for leaving a beautiful imprint in my heart Auntie Winnie, all my love Leslie - Posted by: Leslie Polidoro (Niece) on: Sep 08, 2014

  • Dearest Cousins Mom & I remember the night when Winnie met us at the bus. Our life in Southport was to begin. Winnie, so gracious, bought Mom the cutest cookie jar and have it still. As a child, I remember the card games @ Grandma Cade's, allsort candies, laugher and defiantly tea. Auntie Winnie hosted many showers, wedding & baby. Special dainties and traditional sandwiches. I was blessed to have Aunty Winnie as my Godmother. Reading about Auntie Winnie's wonderful life, I know we were all blessed. On behalf of the Mc Dermid family, we wish you all our deepest sympathies. Thank you Auntie Winnie for being our Auntie! • We wish to extend our profound condolences to each and every family member. We and our children have great memories of Grandma Dutson! Grandma was very loving, caring and generous. She (as all of her family) always extended a warm welcome to us and made us feel like part of the family. She had a wonderful smile, took the time to get to know us, played with the kids and shared in our fun times at home, on the farm and at the lake. She was indeed very special and very much appreciated! We feel very fortunate to have known her. Hugs to all from the Julien family. - Posted by: Lorraine & Armand Julien (family friends) on: Aug 16, 2014
