LORNA JOYCE TRUTHWAITE Quietly in the afternoon of August 20, 2014, in Selkirk Hospital, Lorna Joyce Truthwaite (nee Adshead), aged 80 years, passed away with family by her side. Born July 19, 1934 to Edward (Teddy) and Dina Adshead in St. Andrews, Manitoba, she lived nearly her entire life in the area. As children, she would regale us with stories of her younger years spent with friends in St. Andrews, Lockport, Rossdale, Gonor and Narol as well as train trips to Winnipeg Beach. After marrying Dad on June 15, 1957, they lived in Fort Churchill, Manitoba for a short while before returning to St. Andrews, building a house on the property where they resided until their passing. Recently predeceased by Ron, her husband of 57 years, Lorna lives on in the memories of her children, Keri, Ronda (Greg), Jeffrey and Stuart, her seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Growing up, we were very fortunate to have Mom there every morning to send us off to school. She was instantly involved in any activity we participated in, from sewing figure skating costumes and kindergarten grad gowns, to driving to hockey games and music lessons. She was our baseball coach and Brownie Leader, chief fundraiser and then the countless hours working the canteen, in support of the community centre. As much as she loved St. Andrews, Mom enjoyed escaping to places like Cuba and Mexico. She loved to travel and meet new people and see new places. Mom believed life was worth living and it was meant to be fun. And she liked to tease. Her grandchildren remember her magic nose' that could open the garage door and having to whistle while picking berries in the garden. Everyone will remember her sense of humour and quick wit. In lieu of flowers, donations to CancerCare in her honor are much appreciated. In keeping with Mom's wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life and Dad's will take place Saturday, August 23, 2014 from one to four pm at #9 Donald Road in St. Andrews. Please bring a lawn chair. • My thoughts & prayers go out the family of Aunty Lorna. She was always funny and right to the point and loved to hear good jokes. I'm was lucky enough to get the opportunity to talk to Aunty Lora on the phone when Uncle Ron was in the Selkirk General. I shared a really good joke with them both at the same time and each one of them had a good laugh. Take care Dale & Mar - Posted by: Dale & Marilyn Loutit (Relative) on: Aug 23, 2014
