MARY KRAHN 1924 - 2014 Mary (Maria) Krahn was born in Reinland MB on November 5, 1924. She passed away 89 years later on August 18, 2014, at peace with herself, her family and her God. Our mother was the youngest child of Jacob and Katherina Enns. She was predeceased by her siblings Katherina "Tina", Agenetha "Netha", Margaretha "Greta", Katherina "Tina", Jacob, Helena "Lena" and Abraham. Katherina one passed away one year before Katherina two was born. Mom was also predeceased by our father in 1992. On February 5, 1944 Mom married our father David Krahn of Gnadenthal MB. For the first years of their marriage they farmed in the Gnadenthal area after which they moved to a farm near Carman in 1950. Son Larry was born on April 23, 1945 and Harvey was born on February 20, 1950. In 1953 the family moved to Rosthern, SK where Mom and Dad spent almost 15 years working with disabled and elderly people at the Mennonite Youth Farm. In 1967 they moved to Saskatoon SK and three years later to Lac La Ronge SK where they worked for a time in a school for First Nations children and in other jobs. While living in La Ronge, Mom obtained her senior matriculation and then completed a nursing program in Nipawin SK, obtaining the second highest marks in the province. Mom then nursed in the La Ronge hospital for a time, before she and Dad moved back to Saskatoon. She then spent almost a decade working in various wards at the University Hospital. In 1983 Mom and Dad retired to Kelowna BC, and in late 1985 they moved back to Winnipeg MB where they lived until their deaths. Our Mom is survived by her sons Larry and Harvey and their wives Linda and Ruth. She is also survived by her grandchildren Matthew (Harvey and Ruth), Jesse and Sara (Larry and Linda), her special friend Vanessa, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their children. Our Mom was a caring and loving person who had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren. She was steadfastly strong in her faith and many people have been touched by her kindness and commitment to her Saviour. We thank all of you who stood by her, especially in her last year. She was consistently and lovingly attended to by her friend Vanessa and by her immediate family as well as nieces and their children. We also thank the staff at the Grace Hospital who cared for her at the end. A funeral service and interment will take place on Tuesday, August 26, at 2:00 PM at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg. Donations (in lieu of flowers) can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society. www.chapellawn.ca 885-9715
