ALBERT (AB) VICTOR TAYLOR August 29, 1919 August 16, 2014 With heavy hearts, but incredibly great memories the family announces that Albert passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 16th, 2014, two weeks short of his 95th birthday. Albert is survived by his daughter Beverley (John) Bristow, three sons Robert (Carol), Malcolm (Mavis), Michael (Cindi), eleven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren, his brother Wilf and many nieces and nephews. Albert was predeceased by his wife Sheila and his brother Doug. Albert was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. In 1939 he enlisted in the Canadian Army and subsequently landed in England. He was commissioned as an Officer in the Royal Canadian Artillery in 1943. He met his wife Sheila while on leave in London; they married and returned to Canada with their son Robert after the war. Albert served in the Canadian Army Militia from 1951 to 1968, the last three years as Lt. Colonel commanding the 10th Field Artillery Regiment RCA. Ab had a long and successful career with GMAC. Albert served a term as President of Assiniboine Golf Course where he enjoyed many matches with the boys. He and Sheila loved to compete in the Friday couples nights. He also enjoyed curling at The Deer Lodge Curling Club. Following his retirement in 1979, he and Sheila along with many golf friends journeyed south to Texas where they shared happy times escaping our Winnipeg winters. Albert loved to win a few dollars playing poker, or enjoy a social game of bridge or crib. He enjoyed the past 5 years at Sturgeon Creek Retirement Centre where he and his good friend Larry enjoyed many games of crib and poker (and the occasional glass of wine while listening to music). The staff were wonderful and the family wishes to thank them for taking such great care of this very special gentleman. We have been blessed to have Albert in our lives and our hearts are lifted knowing he is now with Sheila dancing in spirit. Goodbye dear Dad, Granddad, Great Granddad, friend and mentor you will be sorely missed and lovingly remembered. At Albert's request a private family gathering will honour his life--- "Remember you must not mourn me, just celebrate the wonderful life I've had. Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • We would like to send our sympathy to Bob, Mike and Mal and their families in this time of loss. They all spoke very highly of their dad and kept in touch with him on a regular basis. It was so nice to see such a closeness they all had with him. - Posted by: Fred and Joan Engelhardt (Friends of Alberts children) on: Aug 25, 2014

  • Uncle Al, it was such a privilege to come to Canada from our home in England and visit you and your wonderful family just a few weeks before your passing. I loved sitting beside you and listening to the story of how you met Aunty Sheila, my Mum's sister, at the end of World War II.I was impressed too to hear of your ballroom dancing skills! I shall picture your happy smile as you and Aunty Sheila dance throughout eternity! Our love, Jill, your English niece and Chris, her husband xxx - Posted by: Jill Weekes (Niece) on: Aug 23, 2014
