Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM BASIL PEDDIE March 7, 1922 - August 17, 2014 Peacefully, on August 17, Basil Peddie passed away at Deer Lodge Centre at the age of 92. Basil was predeceased by his wife, Margaret, in 1981 and his son, Keith, in 1987. Left to mourn his passing is his son, Ken (Linda), three granddaughters, Melissa (Derek), Janelle and Catherine of Winnipeg and daughter- in-law Lynne of Waterloo, Ontario. Basil was born in Howick, Quebec where he spent his younger years farming with his dad and uncle. In 1942 he joined the army and from 1944-1946 he was overseas. He married Margaret Cairns of PEI on December 8, 1944. In 1949 they became parents of twin boys. After the war in 1952 he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. He and his family moved all across Canada during these years and he retired from the RCAF in Winnipeg in 1967. Then Standard Aero became his employer for 12 years. In the early 1970s Basil and Margaret moved to a country home near Woodlands where he continued living until 2009. Metropolitan Kiwanis Courts on Ness Avenue in Winnipeg became his home until March of this year when his health deteriorated and he was hospitalized. A special thanks to the staff of Metropolitan Kiwanis Courts and Deer Lodge Centre. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 24, at 6:30 p.m. at Fort Garry Evangelical Mennonite Church, 602 Pasadena Ave. Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. MacKenzie Funeral Home of Stonewall in care of arrangements.
