BARBARA KAST 1944 - 2014 It is with deep sadness we announce the sudden passing of Barbara on April 28, 2014 in Richmond, California. Barbara is survived by her mother, Irma Kast, sister Ursula (John), niece Candice (Eddie), nephew Shawn (Lesley), great nephews Jakob and Ejay. She was predeceased by her father Jakob Kast. Barbara was born in Hamburg, Germany and came to Canada with her family in 1951. She spent her youth in Winnipeg attending Gordon Bell High School where she was a very active participant in volleyball and basketball. She graduated from the Winnipeg General Hospital School of Nursing in 1966. In 1967 Barb and three friends embarked on a yearlong tour of Europe. In 1970 Barbara and her adventurous spirit set her sights on California to look for employment. She settled on San Francisco where she worked and resided for l6 years. In 1986 she moved to Richmond, California. She was very active in the arts community there and took great joy in painting and drawing but her greatest passion was evident in her ceramics creations. She was an enthusiastic member of the El Cerrito Tennis Ball team as well as participating in the Richmond Community Crime watch patrol program. Barbara was very devoted to her cats and supported the local feed your ferals program. She will be greatly missed by her many friends in Richmond and Winnipeg. Cremation has taken place and a graveside service officiated by Pastor David Lowe will take place at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, on August 28, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. Glen Eden Funeral Home and Cemetery 204-338-7111
