JANET ANN SMITH It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Janet Ann Smith, with her family by her side, on August 22, 2014 at the age of 69. She will be sadly missed by her husband Dennis Smith, children Debbie (James) and Deanna (Trevor), grandchildren Zachary and Danica, her sisters Helen and Sally, and her brother George (Joan). Janet was predeceased by her parents Ladislav and Enid Persona, and her brothers Jim and Bill Persona. Janet retired from her career with the Manitoba Government (Social Services) in 2009 after 28 years of service. She thoroughly enjoyed her work and helped so many people in need which fit her caring and kind personality perfectly. It was a few years after high school that Janet met her future husband Dennis, they married and had two daughters and started their lives as a family. Janet loved to get out and be active, in the late 1980s she began to change her lifestyle and took up walking, which became her favourite pastime as years went on. After she retired and life slowed down, she took pleasure in a simple cup of coffee with Dennis or walking in the park and feeding the geese. She loved spending time with her two grandchildren and treasured all her friendships she made over the years. Janet was a loving wife, amazing mother, doting grandmother and loyal friend; she will truly be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. A service of remembrance will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Hwy., Winnipeg, Manitoba. Interment will take place privately at a later date. The family would like to make special thanks to the care and support provided by the staff at Concordia Hospital, floor N3W. Flowers are gratefully declined, and the family asks if you wish to donate in Janet's name to the Alzheimer Society.
