Date of Passing: Aug 26, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGARET JANZEN (nee THIESSEN) It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Margaret Janzen on August 26, 2014 at the age of 89. Margaret was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Margarete Thiessen, in-laws Peter and Susanna Janzen, brother-in-law Gerhard Klassen, son-in-law Bruce Martin, and son-in-law Bruce Racette. Margaret will be sorely missed and lovingly remembered by her devoted husband Peter, son Henry (Marlene), daughter Marianne, sister Martha, grandchildren: Andrew, Rachel and Lauren; numerous nieces and nephews, and many relatives and friends who were so near to her heart. Life presented Margaret with many hardships including childhood illness, war, and life endangerment, which she overcame through her unwavering trust in the Lord. Margaret's strength and bravery was proven when she immigrated alone to Canada in hopes of providing her family with a better life. It was there she married her old classmate Peter, sharing 61 unforgettable years together on Cheriton Avenue. During her first years of marriage she worked as a supervisor at Rumfords (later White Hall Laundry) until she experienced heart problems. To help subsidize on the home front, she took on the role of housewife and began her most favourite job as a caregiver. Margaret found great joy in babysitting over a dozen children in total she was a natural caregiver and shared her love endlessly. Her greatest achievement was caring for her family, hosting weekly dinners, cooking, and baking leckere Napoleon torte and the traditional Paska with Peter. Margaret kept Hallmark in business, never forgetting to send a birthday, Christmas, or get well card - she made every occasion special. Her arms were always open to give and receive hugs and her home was open to anyone who wanted to visit, day or night. A special thank you is extended to the staff at N1 North and South wards at Concordia Hospital and the Misericordia Health Centre Cornish 2 for their loving care of Margaret. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at North Kildonan Mennonite Church, 1131 Roch Street, Winnipeg. A viewing will take place prior to the service with interment to follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul. A large part of Margaret's life was the church, especially the community of the North Kildonan Mennonite Church. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the church or to the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC). As Oma always said, thank you for all your love. To Henry, Marlene and family, my deepest condolences for the loss of your matriarch - sent with prayers, blessings and love. I can clearly see Oma’s influence in her grandson Andrew, who has such depth of character, loving soul and such a wonderful connection to his culture. He is an amazing young man and a credit to the legacy she has left on this earth. - Posted by: Ruth Luff and Family (friend of the family) on: Sep 04, 2014
