PETER OLYNYK
Born: Jun 28, 1914
Date of Passing: Aug 31, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPETER OLYNYK June 28, 1914 - August 31, 2014 After an inspiring 100 year life adventure, Peter Olynyk peacefully passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2014. His loving wife Mary predeceased him on May 14, 2003, five days short of their 65th wedding anniversary. Left to cherish Peter's memory are his son Robert, daughter-in-law Gloria, grandsons Jason and Justin, his sole surviving brother Miran (wife Jennie), and many nieces and nephews. Peter was born, educated and lived his entire life in Winnipeg. Peter always regretted that he was unable to complete his schooling when his father removed him from Grade 9 to find work to help support the family. After a series of odd jobs, Peter found permanent employment with Swift Canada for 37 years until his retirement. Although Peter had little formal education, he acquired a great deal of knowledge from reading thousands of books. All his life Peter was an avid reader and collector of books. Up to his last few weeks, Peter could still be found reading a large print book. Another source of great pleasure was Peter and Mary's annual holiday visiting relatives in Victoria. The family would like to thank the compassionate nurses and staff at the West Park Manor where Peter spent his final days. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 5, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Interment to follow. Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.ca 204-885-9715

Deepest condolences to Bob and Gloria, Jason and Justin. Uncle Peter was very special to our family here on Vancouver Island. Uncle Peter and Aunt Mary visited us many many times in Victoria and Duncan and we will cherish those sweet times and memories forever. Rest in peace Uncle Peter. - Posted by: Barbara Dobie (niece) on: Sep 03, 2014

One of my favourite childhood memories was Uncle Peter and I getting a Christmas tree when I was 5 or 6. He dragged it home in the snow while I rode it like a sled. His library was a wonderland and he and Auntie Mary were very special people. My condolences to Bob, Gloria, Jason and Justin. - Posted by: Rod Kozak (nephew) on: Sep 03, 2014
