LUBA (LU) CHORNOBOY (nee NYKYFORUK) April 11, 1921 - August 21, 2014 Peacefully, on Thursday, August 21, 2014, with family at her side, Luba Chornoboy passed away at the age of 93. Luba is survived by her sons: Gary (Dorothy) and Dale (Debbie); grandchildren: Shannon (Jon Friesen), Daryn (Angela Heese) and Gavin (in Grande Prairie, AB); as well as six great-grandchildren, who all adored their "Nanna": Taylor, Jayden, Bryson, Jaxon, Keaton and Thayda Lu (Lu's legacy lives on!) Luba was predeceased by her husband of 36 years, Ted, in 1975. During her years in Grunthal, Lu was very active in the 4-H Sewing club and many still remember her for teaching them to strive for good work. She also trained for, and became, a judge at many Manitoba Horticultural fairs. Her sharp eyes and taste buds were definitely helpful in determining where the prizes should go! After Ted's passing, Lu pursued her love of travel and began a career with Circle Tours and enjoyed people and places, with trips throughout Canada, the U.S.A. and Alaska. In earlier years, Ted and Lu had visited different places by air or car. Later her dear sister-in-law and friend, Joyce, became her companion. She thus enjoyed many parts of the world: China, Australia, New Zealand, South America, Europe, Mexico, Hawaii and the U.K. Her pleasure was in seeing and learning. After Lu turned 80, we began to notice a gradual decline in her body and mind. She soon needed extra care and thus went first to Riverside Lions Estates, then Golden Links Lodge and then moved to River Ridge, after Golden Links flooded. The family thanks all the hard-working staff at each of these facilities. You were wonderful. Cremation has taken place and a private family celebration of her life will be held, as per Lu's wishes. Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Gail and I are so sorry to hear about Lu's passing. Please accept our sincere condolences. Lu was a very special person who through her travel connections was introduced to me while at Circle Tours. It did not take long when Lu became one of the company's most sought after tour guides and bus touring became an enjoyable part of her life activities. She was loved and admired by all who had the good fortune to be on tour with her. Lu always went the extra mile to make sure everyone on board had a great holiday experience! But Lu was more than a great tour guide, she became a mentor and good friend who helped me forge ahead with the travel business. I will always remember her as a person who firmly stood by her beliefs and personal convictions and someone who you could always count on. Lu lived life fully and left an indelible life memory that will not be forgotten. She will be missed. - Posted by: Kurt Enns (Friend and business colleague) on: Sep 09, 2014

  • Dear Gary,Dale and family, My sister Margaret and I offer you our sympathy, thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. Your Mom and Dad were great friends and travelling companions with our Mom and Dad and so we feel a bond with you and remember with fondness the times we shared back in "Grunthal days". I'm sure there was a wonderful reunion for Luba and Ted and a great "welcome home" with their many relatives and friends in the "great beyond". With our sympathy and prayers, Margaret Scallen & Alice Konefall - Posted by: Alice Konefall (family friend) on: Sep 06, 2014

  • We wish to express our condolences to Gary and Dale and their families over the passing of our cousin Luba. It has been many years since we have seen Luba but we have often thought about her. Therefore it is of great sadness that we hear of her passing. Tom and I remember very vividly our visit to Grunthal Manitoba in the spring of 1959. At that time we met Gary and Dale and were treated with very kind hospitality by Luba and family. - Posted by: John and Eve Nikifork and family. • I am so sad to hear of the passing of your dear mother/grandmother. My earliest memories of her are very vivid---a beautiful, always immaculately well-groomed, and charming lady who would become such a leader within the community because of her talents and abilities. Always so very personable and delightful to all. May she rest in peace with those who have gone before her and the saints. - Posted by: Helen Feniuk (Friend of the family) on: Sep 06, 2014
