BENNO KLAASSEN 1924 - 2014 Peacefully in his sleep, Benno passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at Bethesda Place at the age of 90 years. Those left to cherish his memory are his son David (Gisele) and their two children, son James and his one child, daughter Joanne and her three children, son Ken (Bev) and their four children, son Gordon (Janet) and their two children, son Ron and his one child, daughter Rhonda and her one child, son Eric (Tia) and their three children, his 18 great-grandchildren as well as his nieces and nephews and his good friend Esther Plett. Diedrich and Kathrina welcomed their youngest child Benno on June 18, 1924 to their family. Benno was a farmer until his desire to teach took over. He taught for 30 years throughout Manitoba and if you were to ask where his favourite place to teach was, he would say Salt Point. It was there that his sense of adventure was satisfied, especially when boat or horse and sleigh were used to head to Winnipegosis for supplies. After he retired he enjoyed driving through all of Canada and was an international traveller. Benno was known to keep his hand busy with woodworking, never let technology get in the way of communicating with family, loved to read as he always had a thirst for knowledge, and enjoyed a good day of fishing. When Benno moved into Bethesda Place, he met new friends and was always appreciative for all the care he received, especially towards the end he showed gratitude to his family who visited. Benno will be missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made The Gideons International In Canada, P.O. Box 3619, Guelph, Ontario N1H 7A2.
