JESSIE CALDERWOOD WHITE (nee GILMOUR) September 14, 1920 September 6, 2014 It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of their beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, Jessie White, aged 93 years, of Gimli, MB. Jessie was predeceased by her parents Alan and Catherine Gilmour, her husband Harold, her brothers Alan and Archie, son-in-law Jim, daughters-in-law Shelley and Darlene and grandson Norman. Jessie is survived and lovingly remembered by her family: Helen (Dave); her children Alan, Cathy (Jerry), Janet (Fred), Lorraine (Norman), David (Leslie), Betty (Ruggles), Margaret (Wayne), John and Ron; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and brother-in-law Tom (Norma). Jessie was born in Sandbank, Scotland and moved to North Vancouver, BC as a four year old with her parents and her brother Alan. Her father worked as a ship builder, but they moved back to Scotland before the Second World War. Jessie served as a nurse in Glasgow, Scotland during the war where she met her husband Harold, a Canadian soldier. Jessie moved back to Canada, along with her son Alan, as a war bride in 1945. Harold stayed on for another year. Jessie raised her family in Kenora, ON, Whitemouth and Gimli, MB. In Gimli, Jessie was employed at the Betel Home. She embraced the Icelandic culture and loved her town of Gimli. Jessie was a member of many volunteer groups the Legion, Women's Institute and the Church - to name a few. She was a great care giver to all her family and friends. Jessie was very proud of her Scottish heritage. She was a true lover of nature and some of her favourite pastimes were walking the lakeshore and picnics with family. Jessie loved geography, history and crossword puzzles as well as listening to her Scottish music. We will all miss her sense of humour and her stories of the old country, North Vancouver and the Second World War. Her family and friends will miss her deeply. The family would like to thank everyone at the Betel Home for looking after Jessie. A service of remembrance will be held on Monday, September 15, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Bartholomew Anglican Church, 291 Churchill Road, Winnipeg Beach, MB with Rev. Robin Mather officiating. Jessie was a very kind and generous person. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Jessie to the charity of your choice.   • Sincere condolences to all the White family. Although it has been years since I left Whitemouth, I have many nice memories of speaking with Mrs. White when I would go over to the White house (on Mr Hunter's old farm) to visit David.   • I have a rally nice memory of Jessie's kindness and hospitality to my family and myself when we dropped in unannounced to their cozy little home in Gimli. This was in the early 90s when we were on vacation in Manitoba. Aunt Jessie seemed to effortlessly prepare a delicious lunch for our sons, Matthew and Daniel, and for Anne and myself.
