HELEN ALICE YAREMA December 22, 1928 September 7, 2014 It is with great sadness and a hole in our hearts, we announce the passing of our much loved mother Helen, at the age of 85, with family by her side. Mom fought a good fight, struggling with lung cancer, breast cancer and two broken hips. She never gave up fighting. Mom was predeceased by her husband Steve, her son Mark and her sisters Rita, Madeleine, Teresa, Gertrude and Jean. Mom leaves to cherish her memory, her sons Murray and Mike (Margaret) and daughters Tanis (Mark) and Cherie (Helen) as well as eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, twin sisters Annabelle and Jackie, and numerous nephews and nieces. Mom was an avid reader, and enjoyed puzzles, bird watching, gardening (nothing tastes better than a fresh tomato), animals (those damn cats!), Monday night wrestling (even if they did nothing but talk), playing cribbage and darts. Saturday mornings were not complete until the word search was done. Mom worked hard all her life - hairdressing, school bus driver, store clerk, LPN, but the one job she never gave up was being a mom. Even with her passing she will continue with that job as we will never forget the stories, the lessons or the never ending love she had for each and every one of us. In respecting Helen's wishes, cremation has taken place and a graveside memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 11, at 2:00 p.m. at the St. Boniface Cemetery on Archibald Street. A reception will follow at the Fort Garry Hotel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or the MS Society of Manitoba. Travel safe Mom - we will love you always. • Thinking of you and your family at this difficult time Cherie. What a special relationship you and your Mom shared, my friend. I'm with Chrissy and Phil, Helen was an awesome lady who had an ability to make people feel special. I join in with others in encouraging you to keep your memories close and speak of her often. Peace to you all. - Posted by: Karen Price (Friend) on: Sep 10, 2014

  • I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to my old friend Tannis and her family. I remember you and your siblings from the days when you had the restaurant in Hadashville and I lived in Falcon with my parents and brothers. I remember your parents were very hard workers and all you kids were so much fun. I am sorry for your loss and pray that you may all find comfort in one another and knowing that many friends care for you. - Posted by: susan Loeppky (friend of the family) on: Sep 10, 2014

  • Cherie, Helen and Family, we were so saddened to hear of Helen's passing. We loved your Mom dearly and we will miss her. I have wonderful memories of her and will keep those close always. We have both lost a parent within a two week span and we know how you are feeling. Keep the memories close and speak of her often. You were a very special daughter to your mom and you and Helen made her a wonderful home with good food, laughter and care and much love. She was proud of you! Love you both, Trish and Eric - Posted by: Trish and Eric Teichroew (Friends of Cherie and Helen) on: Sep 10, 2014
