Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALEXANDER KERNOVICH (ALEX) August 4, 1924 September 5, 2014 It is with great sadness our family announces the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Alex Kernovich on September 5, 2014 at Concordia Hospital in Winnipeg. Alex will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his daughter Lorna Sampson (John), granddaughter Amanda Balzer (Dylan), great-granddaughter Stella Balzer, sister Margaret Hawryluk, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. We are so grateful that Dad was with us long enough to form a loving bond with Stella. She always brought a smile to his face and he loved it when she called him GGP! Dad was the only person we knew who would read the daily newspaper from front to back and could talk about absolutely everything he'd read. He was a gentle man who loved his family dearly and was a kind person to everyone he knew. Dad moved from his condo five years ago and into Devonshire House. There he formed new friendships with residents and staff. He very much enjoyed his time there. We will all miss him dearly and he will forever be in our hearts. According to Alex's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held in the private dining room at Devonshire House, 75 Kildonan Green Drive, Winnipeg on Wednesday, September 17th at 1:30 p.m. Dad had a number of charities he supported but he particularly loved animals. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, any donations can be made in his memory to the Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter, 3061 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3K 0Y1 (www.petrescueshelter.com). You can shed tears that he is gone, Or you can smile because he lived, You can close your eyes and pray that he will come back, Or you can open your eyes and see all that he has left. Your heart can be empty because you can't see him Or you can be full of the love that you shared, You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday, Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. You can remember him and only that he is gone Or you can cherish his memory and let it live on, You can cry and close your mind be empty and turn your back, Or you can do what he would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.
