TED PAWLYK September 28, 1936 - September 9, 2014 After a long fought battle against cancer it is with deep regret that we say that Ted is dead. He passed away peacefully at Seven Oaks Hospital on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 with family by his side. An everlasting impression on his family and friends and to all that were able to meet him, Ted was a character to say the least from his sharp sense of humour to the seriousness of his droll, like it or leave it Ted would always let you know where he stood. He will be sadly missed by his son Michael; brother Billy; sister Kathy; nieces Lindsey (Matt), Shannon, Kaitlynn, and Jennifer; his dear friend Brandeis; and his coffee cohorts Larry and Cliff. Ted was predeceased by his mother Maria; adored father William; and best friend Jack Robinson (oh the stories!). Ted had a love for music and radio which he pursued in an early career with CFRY in Portage la Prairie, then CKTB in St. Catherines, WNFN Niagara Falls, WNFN New York, WGR Buffalo, and CHOW in Welland. He then left radio to pursue a career in sales. Later in life Ted returned to his true passion of radio broadcasting with CKVN community radio in Winnipeg, CHNR, CJML, and CJNU Winnipeg nostalgia radio. Up until the end he always had a quick quip and zinger waiting for you. Ted had many friends who cared for him deeply that will truly miss him. Ted asked that he have no service and that his family just simply spread his ashes. His only other request was to celebrate him with a drink and at some point stand up and yell KREEEN! We don't what it means but it made him laugh. Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Ted was wonderful to me when I started on the air at CJNU. He always had words of inspiration for me and quite often he would call and chit chat with my father Gren while he was doing his Sunday morning show at CJNU. When I took over the show, Ted would keep in touch. Thank you Ted... - Posted by: Chris Marsh (Friend) on: Mar 15, 2015

  • Loved listening to him on CJNU. Will miss him - Posted by: Ed Klemm () on: Sep 13, 2014

  • I met ted when we both "worked" what we all called the "Oldie Goldie" station. He never told me much about his past radio experience although his voice and delivery made it obvious he had been "around". It's easy for those of us who spent time in broadcasting to identify a broadcaster. Broadcasting, especially back in "the day" wasn't as easy as most people think and Ted at some point may have thought "who needs the weird working hours and at times low pay?'. In any case when Ted went into sales it was radio's loss. A nice guy who I enjoyed sparring with when it came to the quick wit. We lost touch a few years back. I'm so sorry to hear of his passing. - Posted by: Murray Parker (broadcasting) on: Sep 13, 2014
