EUGENE ZAWERUCHA April 10, 1940 September 10, 2014 After a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his family, we announce the passing of Eugene. He is survived by his loving wife Shirley, and two daughters Sandy (Andy) Janice (Joe) and three grandchildren Andrew, Brittany, and Sydney, sister Elaine (Lawrence) of Regina, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Eugene was born and raised in Preeceville, SK. and is predeceased by his parents Nick and Mary Zawerucha, his brothers Mike, Walter, and sister Bernice. At a young age, he started working at C.P. Rail where he was road master responsible for adding track through the mountains in Revelstoke, BC. He later transferred to Winnipeg where he worked at the Transcona yards until he retired. After retirement, he decided to get his license to do income tax and was still preparing returns until very recently. He was very involved with his grandchildren and all of their sports. Never missing hockey, volleyball, softball games and tournaments. He took many trips, loved to travel, and spent as much time with family as he could and he always commented how he loved to be with the kids. He also enjoyed helping them with homework (math especially) and the kids knew they could always count on him. We'd like to thank all of his nurses and doctors who cared for him at Concordia Hospital (Dr. Harris), and the compassion they showed to the family. A celebration of Eugene's life will be held on Sunday, September 14 at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. in West St. Paul at 2:00 p.m. The pain and suffering is over now, we'll always cherish the time and special memories we had with you and will never forget. Until we see you again, be at peace, sleep well, we love you. Glen Eden Funeral Home & Cemetery 204-338-7111

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I also worked with my Uncle Gene for the CPR in the early 1970's. It was through Gene that I got my first job in the real world and will always appreciate the opportunity that he gave me. Rest in peace Uncle Gene. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. - Posted by: Gary Mula (Nephew) on: Sep 17, 2014

  • I had the privledge of working with Gene for CPR in BC for a few years. I knew him as a quiet and private person with a great sense of humor. His hard work and dedication left an impression on me that I tried to follow during my working career. Our paths would cross over the years when attending various family functions. I had the opportunity to meet with Gene when I was visiting in Winnipeg about 5 years ago and we had a nice visit reminiscing about the past and what we were doing at that time. Even though he was my uncle I considered him a friend as well which is a rare gift in life. He will be missed. - Posted by: Allan Mula (Nephew) on: Sep 16, 2014

  • You've had a great journey with us here. For all us old timers that have worked on the rails, you're up there now in a better place waiting for us to join you. We'll miss you. Rest Well!! - Posted by: Larry Brazeau (55 Year Friendship) on: Sep 13, 2014
