She was predeceased by her father William and her sister Margaret. Her memory will be cherished by her mother Marie, her brother Bruce (Teri), nephews Kyle and Tyler (Amanda), nieces Sheila and Nicole, great-nephew Wesley, daughter Julia (Ron), granddaughters Leia and Milla, as well as numerous friends. Kathy's nursing career included working at the Seven Oaks and the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, at the Kapiolani Medical Centre in Honolulu Hawaii, for Northern Medivac, and she was a Northern Clinical nurse at various nursing stations on northern reserves in Manitoba. As a teenager Kathy hitch-hiked numerous times to the west coast and finally achieved her goal of living there when she made Comox, B.C. her home for several years in her 50s before returning to Winnipeg to be with family. Kathy loved her cats Kramer and Oreo and requested that donations in her memory be made to the Humane Society. The family gives their heart-felt appreciation to the staff at the Grace Hospice for the exceptional care that Kathleen received. They made her feel completely at home over the last few months and we could not have asked for anything to be done differently. We would also like to thank the staff at Riverview Hospital, St. Boniface Cancer Care and Homecare for their high level of caring and compassion. A Celebration of Kathy's Life will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Hi Bruce and Teri, I think of Kathy every November 30th . This evening I decided to google her name and found this obituary which is lovely . Our paths crossed many times working in Northern Manitoba . I have fond memories as we had lots of laughs and fun . She was a great nurse , compassionate and kind . Kathy and I were about the same age . Even though it’s been 9 years since Kathy’s passing , I feel the need to send this message and tell you that Kathy touched many lives . Mine was one of them . I’ll always remember Kathy . Sincerely, Fran Schmidt - Posted by: Fran Schmidt (Friend and Nursing Colleague ) on: Nov 30, 2023
