ALICE MARY STEWART (BLAIR) May 1, 1940 - September 18, 2014 After a long and courageous battle, Alice peacefully passed away with her daughters by her side. Predeceased by her husband Jack of 25 years, she will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Jan (Ross); grandchildren Jack and Hana; daughter Allison (Barry); stepgrandchildren Tamara (Frank), Chas (Brandi), Justin (Jessica), Josh (Amanda); stepgreat-grandchildren and stepgreat-great- grandchild. Also mourning her loss are her siblings John, Eileen (Bill), Charlotte (Bill), Joyce (Rod) and Shirley as well as numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Alice was predeceased by her sister Doreen and her parents, Agnes and Charles. Alice and Jack shared a love for teaching, travelling, and adventure. Together they enjoyed camping at Betula Lake and Royal Lake, taking family vacations and embarking on numerous cross-country road trips. After graduating from teacher's college in 1962, Alice taught music in Transcona-Springfield School Division for 36 years, a profession she enjoyed where she developed lifetime friends throughout her career. Involved with the Organization for Cooperation of Overseas Development, Alice took her music skills to Dominica where she taught teachers as part of a development project over a period of two summers. Taking students to festivals and concerts and directing school musicals, she shared her skills and talents with children of all ages and fostered this love for music with her children and grandchildren. Family was an important part of her life; she adored her grandchildren and participated in all of their special events. She remained close to her siblings throughout the years and she was actively involved in family activities, dinners, and celebrations. A member of St. George's Anglican Church, Alice was actively involved as a vestry member for many years, holding the position of People's Warden. Throughout the years, she assisted with many church activities like the annual bazaar, working the plant stand, organizing the funeral committee, contributing to the music ministry, and many other community events. Combining her love for music with her passion to contribute to her church, she also took on the responsibility of being the church organist. Alice's love for animals was apparent in her kind and gentle nature with her pets. Her numerous hobbies included, camping, gardening, baking, scrapbooking, and sewing, which included numerous custom made Halloween costumes and creative projects. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 27 at 11:00 a.m. at St. George's Anglican Church in Transcona, 321 Pandora Ave. West. The family would like to extend thanks to Dr. Fatoye and staff at Seven Oaks Hospital for their care, compassion and support. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba or a charity of your choice. www.chapellawn.ca 885-9715

Wanda & I are truly sorry about your loss. We had so many enjoyable moments as neighbours at Royal Lake. Who can forget the camp fires, gardening, building projects, happy hour, grandchildren, pets and lost (& found) parrot. I have years of memories to cherish. I grew up next door to the Stewart Family. "Mom" was like my 2nd Mom to me. Being at their house almost nightly, we would enjoy watching movies together, and Mom would always make sure we had plenty of popcorn to eat. I would spend many times with her showing me how to use a computer when they first started appearing in households. (as they were the 1st family to have a computer). Oh Mom, you also tried so hard to teach me how to play the organ, sorry I never really picked up on it. There are just too many things to mention. I will miss you more than I could ever say, and it will take a very long time to not want to come over just to say hello. I Love You and will Miss You so much. Rest In Peace now Mom, you are finally free of the pain and in the arms of your husband again. God, please have a special place to keep her warm and safe. - Posted by: Janice Streilein (Close Family Friend) on: Sep 24, 2014

My condolences to Alice's family. I first met Alice at a U of M night class while we were both working towards our B.Ed. degree. Because we both lived in North Kildonan we car pooled to classes. We worked on projects together and homework assignments. The class presentations were such fun with Alice playing the guitar and me trying to sing!! We enjoyed meeting at school division meetings over the years and so often talked about our years at night classes. Wonderful happy memories. I hope that you, her family, enjoy many happy memories of her to comfort you in the years to come. Sincerely, Shirley Augustine - Posted by: Shirley Augustine (University pal.) on: Sep 24, 2014
