CARMELLE DUMONTIER July 11, 1952 - September 22, 2014 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Carmelle on September 22, 2014 at the Woman's Hospital after a long and courageous battle with Cancer. Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband Richard Vermette, daughter-in-law Anita (Karl), and granddaughters Gabryelle, Rheyanne and Celine. She was predeceased by son Christian, her father Donat, brothers-in-law Rene and Aime, and infant brother George. She will be deeply missed by her mother Annette Dumontier, and siblings Marie, Stella, Bert (Renee), Irene, Estelle (Andy), Raymond (Dolores), Claude (Denise), and Harvey (Karrie). After graduation she pursued a career in education by completing her B.A., B.Ed and M.Ed. She absolutely loved every minute of her 30 years in the field of education. She mentored and influenced many during her career. She had a diverse skill set; organized, disciplined, focused, determined, articulate, tireless, loving and nurturing. Carmelle had many interests, she loved to bake, cook, scrap book, and enjoyed photography, golfing and travelling in her later years. Her absolute favourite was spending every minute she could with her granddaughters. She truly treasured those moments. Finally, many thanks to the friends and family who made the extra effort in making Carmelle smile everyday during her 14 month journey with Cancer. A very special thank you to all the medical professionals and care givers, too numerous to mention, who improved the quality of life for Carmelle. Funeral services will be held at the Glenlea Mennonite Church in Glenlea, Manitoba on Saturday, September 27 at 1:30 p.m. Carmelle's cremated remains will be interred beside her son in the Glenlea Cemetery. Those we love, don't go away, they walk with us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near. Still loved, still missed and very dear. LECLAIRE BROTHERS in care of arrangements, 204-775-2220

  • Carmelle may you rest in peace! I had the pleasure of having Carmelle as my mentor when I entered the field of teacher-librarianship. She was so kind and considerate. She had the patience needed to work with newbies! Carmelle gave more than 100% all of the time. I learned so much from her specifically, how to instill the love of reading into people to last a lifetime. Carmelle, may you enjoy any book you want at any time now! Read amongst the angels! You truly are one of them! - Posted by: Claudia Klausen (friend) on: Sep 26, 2014

- Posted by: Jo-Anne (collègue) on: Sep 26, 2014

  • I got to know Carmelle only a few years ago when she was a volunteer recording secretary for the East Beaches Area Development Board. She was always smiling helpful and incredibly efficient. Draft minutes would be on our computer by the time we got home the same night. She was generous with her help and always volunteered to do more. We missed her when she decided to spend more time at home. We did not realise until later the seriousness of her illness. Do rest in peace. - Posted by: Walter Kleinschmit (Sat on same committee in Grand Marais) on: Sep 25, 2014

  • Mme Dumontier taught me Grade 5&6 at Springfield Heights School, and then helped me grow when I was a student teacher. I still remember the wonderful pineapple upside down cakes she would make to celebrate student birthdays. My condolences to her family, peace be with you Mme. xo xo - Posted by: Andrea Zbrog (Former student) on: Sep 25, 2014

  • Carmelle was an amazing woman. She always gave more than 100% of herself to others. At Springfield Heights School she was a major contributor to the smooth running of the computer program and library. She mentored students and staff in their computer skills and encouraged and promoted the French Immersion program. Never one to take the lime-light, Carmelle often worked hard behind the scenes, allowing others to be successful. Carmelle was a wonderful Teacher-Librarian. She will be sadly missed by her library collegues in River Est Transcona School Division and at BEF. Her love of books was evident in how enthusiastically she shared them with her students. Ever patient, she would re-teach a skill or concept until the student, or staff member, got it right. I will forever be thankful for having Carmelle for a friend and inspired by her creativity and super-positive outlook on life. - Posted by: Sherry Faller (Friend and colleague) on: Sep 25, 2014

  • I met Carmelle and Christian on the first day of our son Richard's kindergarten at Tache. Richard and Chris became good friends and had many great times together. Leon played old timers hockey with Richard and so we were friends all around!! We spent many evenings having dinner together. We always felt free to discuss anything and shared our good times and hard times together. I will always remember Carmelle's expressions and laughter. I can't imagine how painful this is for Richard to lose his family. The only comfort we have is that she will be joining Christian and that her pain has ended. Richard, you are in our thoughts and prayers and please call if there is anything we could do for you. Hugs, Leon and Janet - Posted by: Janet and Leon (friends) on: Sep 25, 2014
