KENNETH (KENNY O) OSINSKI
Date of Passing: Sep 25, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKENNETH (KENNY O) OSINSKI "Kenny O", a man of many talents and experiences, slipped away on his own terms at 0540H September 25, 2014, with his wife, Gini Lauder Osinski, their friend, Anne Ledger, and "Cuz" Karen Kaplen by his side; sharing stories with him and each other. That 5 + 4 = 9 timing was important to Ken. "He had a thing for nines," Gini recalled. Which is why, when they "eloped" to Hawaii, they married on 09-02-09. His fight with cancer reflected who Kenny was; brave, honourable, and filled with humour. His bucket list of sorts a baseball game, a banana split, corned beef sandwich, and carmel sundae; and people obliged by delivering his last meals to the Riverview Health Care Centre. "Woody" he got the nickname because he had a haircut like Woody Woodpecker -- owned and operated Woody's Performance Center. He was always busy with cars; drag racing and some roundy-rounds. Woody was a gifted artist who drew logos for his own business; and slogans for his own company Woody's Performance Center "Our Business is Accelerating" and others like, Speedy Muffler "Our Business is Exhausting!" and Crane Towing "Our Business is picking up!". But Ken's day job for 30 of his 70 years was at Canada Customs, where he climbed up the ladder to acting supervisor. He was special man, respected and liked by many, yet he often put himself down. Still, he felt happy about what he accomplished. His proudest moments were teaching at the Customs College in Rigard, PQ, where he enjoyed challenging himself and his students. His mentor, Christian helped him to see his self-worth and brilliance in the way he taught the students. He had other proud accomplishments; graduating from Culinary Arts at Red River when he was nearly 60; and his photography, for which he received praise from both family members and his life-long friend, Doug Petreman (Judy), Ken, always the avid baseball fan, would spend more time on the field taking pictures than in his seat. He made many good friends at the games, especially Mickey (The Winnipeg Goldeyes #1 fan), and team marketing manager, Dan Chase, who arranged for Ken, Gini, Ken's cousin Scott and wife Elinor, to go to a game and sit front row behind home plate. He was thrilled. He often took pictures to give to the pitchers to assist them and they were so pleased to find out what they were doing wrong. He picked out the right shots naturally having been a pitcher when he was in school baseball. He is survived by his "Only True Love" Gini; her brothers Allan Lauder, Rick Lauder, "Cuz" Karen Kaplen, and other family members who enjoyed him when he got to Minaki. He also leaves to mourn his leaving his cousin Scott (Elinor and their family), his cousin Mary Ann, and his Uncle Joe., along with son Trevor (Alison); daughter Kendra (David Moore, and grandchildren Jordan and Shelby who were very important to him). In lieu of flowers Ken and Gini would appreciate you giving contributions to Auto Clubs of Canada (www.autoclubs.ca) or to a charity of your choice. Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame, are taking care of arrangements. Service is Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. There will be a private interment. Hoping people who left messages read this .... Oh Brenda ... so many people did not see through his sometimes rough exterior to "see" that part of Ken that was so smart I know it frightened him, because for some reason he felt he did not deserve it. Thank you so much for your kind and lovely comments. Gary, thank you ... it sure seems that we pop in and out of each others lives when strength is needed and given. Ray, how true, if you want I'll be willing to tease you about your truck ... hehehhehe. Never about your friendship to Ken which was deep and filled with love and caring, on both sides. You blessed him in so many ways and he appreciated it. He would often bring you into a conversation with such deep "affection" in his voice, a true sign of how much you meant to him. Hoping you stay in my life, you are such an amazing person and friend, and anyone who knows you is blessed by your presence. Allan - thank you for your loving him, he loved you back, if you had any question about that. He was surprised by your love and caring, as am I. - Posted by: Gini (spouce) on: Oct 22, 2014

Kenny O was my colleague and mentor, even though on paper I was his superintendent. Kenny helped me with many work problems as a young supervisor. I am fortunate I got to see the side of Kenny he hid from many of his colleagues - kind, funny and generous. I am sorry for your loss but I am sure there is a bright star in the sky and it is Kenny O - Posted by: Brenda Ryan (Former co-worker) on: Oct 11, 2014

Very difficult expressing that same feeling, Gini. Ken leaves behind him an emptiness that will take some time to really comprehend. He's not there to help with my computer questions anymore, not there to argue about my truck choices, no more Ken's cuisine, no more a lot of things. I'm so very glad that I got to see him several times with a big smile on his face, before we said goodbye. - Posted by: Ray MacDuff (Friend) on: Oct 02, 2014

Enjoyed knowing Ken. He was a kind, courageous and upbeat generous guy, who brought a new life to my sister Gini. I'm sorry you're gone so soon. - Posted by: Allan Lauder (Brother-in-law) on: Oct 02, 2014

Oh Kenny O .... it's been a week already .... my heart cannot get that ... it cannot imagine that that you are gone, it feels more like you went out for the quart of milk and are coming back. - Posted by: Gini O. () on: Oct 02, 2014
