FLORA MCWHIRTER (nee MCINTOSH) 1923 - 2014 Peacefully, with her family at her side, on September 19, 2014 Flora passed away at the Pembina Place Personal Care Home. Left to cherish Flora's memory are her sons, Don (Darlene), Robert (Diane), her daughter Lori (Bruce), daughter-in-law Brenda, and grandchildren Mark, Michael, Katie, Austin and Kirsten. She was predeceased by her husband Ralph McWhirter in 2009, and her son Bruce in 1995. Flora was born near Climax, Saskatchewan on December 9, 1923. She was the fifth child in a family of seven. Flora moved to Winnipeg with her family when she was 14 years old where she attended Kelvin High School. Upon graduating from Kelvin she attended secretarial school and found a job working at Osler, Hammond and Nanton. At this time a close friend introduced her to the love of her life, Ralph. They were married in 1947 and spent many happy years together. Their lives revolved around their family and Norwood United Church. They travelled extensively to such places as Hawaii, Europe, Australia, and Alaska. Flora was a sweet, caring, and loving mother, grandmother and wife. She was the heart of the family, bringing everyone together, creating traditions, celebrating birthdays and holidays. She loved to cook, sew, read, work in her garden and watch sports on television Flora instilled in her family the importance of a good education. She was very proud of the achievements of both her children and grandchildren. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Pembina Place Personal Care Home for the compassion and care they demonstrated to Flora. A private family service has already taken place. Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Flora will be missed. Everytime I saw Flora she had a smile on her face and she was always friendly. My condolences to the McWhirter Family. - Posted by: Doug Krahn (friend) on: Oct 24, 2014

  • Dear family I, Gerry, worked with your dad at the CNR and at the Winnipeg Music Festival for many years. It has been our pleasure to occasionally spend time visiting with your mom and dad. What a gracious, giving and fun people they both were. We visited your mom for a few minutes this summer while we were in Winnipg. When we said we were leaving she put out her hand to shake ours and thanked us for coming. A lovely lady who left the people with whom she came in contact happier. • The McWhirter family, I am part of the pastoral care group at St. Mary's Road United Church and in that capacity I visited your Mom over the last two years. She was quiet but I could tell when I mentioned a subject she liked. We didn't visit long but when I was leaving she always thanked me for coming. I feel fortunate that I was able to know her a little. Regards, Margaret Wilcock October 10, 2014 - Posted by: Margaret Wilcock (St.Mary's Road United Chirch visitor) on: Oct 10, 2014
