JOYCE VIEVILLE (nee SWEENEY) It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother, Joyce on Friday, September 26, 2014 at Seven Oaks General Hospital in Winnipeg. Left to mourn her passing are daughter Coleen (Dennis Sworyk) Vieville and grandsons, Joe and Andy; son Robert and grandson Jesse; son Richard (Chim). Also mourning her passing are her sisters-in-law Vivian, Lucille (Henry), brothers-in-law Roger (Mary-Anne), Don (late Joanne) and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents William and Ingibjorg Sweeney, brother William, daughter Laurel, husband Laurent (Pete), and her sisters Joanne and Patty. Joyce was born in Winnipeg, MB on June 20, 1931, the first of four children born to William and Ingibjorg Sweeney. She worked for many years at Salisbury House where she met her future husband Pete. Joyce and Pete married and together they raised their four children. Joyce began working outside the home for Armstrong Printing once the children were grown, managing the Pembina Highway store for 17 years. She was a dedicated worker, and took great pride in her work. Grandsons, Joe, Andy and Jesse made her life complete. She loved her grandsons dearly, and they loved her just as much and never hesitated to let her know. They had a very close relationship and she took great interest in all aspects of their lives, especially their sports, music and academic achievements. Joyce was an excellent cook (she introduced us to the Food Network) and nothing pleased her more than preparing a wonderful dinner and being surrounded by the entire family. Her life was spent caring for those she loved and she never missed an opportunity to celebrate a special occasion or accomplishment. She had a wonderful sense of humour, and enjoyed sharing a good laugh, in fact she was the first in the family to watch The Big Bang Theory her kind of humour! The last few months became very difficult as her health was failing and numerous hospital stays became a frequent part of her life. A trip to the hospital in September was her last. She was just too tired, and simply unable to recover and passed away comfortably and peacefully with family by her side. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Seven Oaks General Hospital, 3rd floor unit 4 for the excellent care and compassion they provided to Joyce during her recent hospital stay and to the caring staff at the dialysis units of the St. Boniface and Seven Oaks hospitals. Gratitude is also extended to the staff at the Maples Personal Care Home who welcomed her with open arms, and made her feel at home. At her request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service, officiated by Henry Armstrong and Pastor Greg Armstrong, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 3, 2014 at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 Des Meurons Street. Flowers are gratefully declined. In memory of Joyce, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, The Kidney Foundation of Canada, Manitoba Branch, The Winnipeg Humane Society or to a charity of your choice. Colleen, Robert and Richard the boys and I are sorry to hear about your mom, hopefully she is in a happier place now. I will always remember her for our dinners at your house and those special treats I later in life learned are called rice crispy squares. She made such a simple treat so good. She was a wonderful that will be missed by all. - Posted by: Randy SKYBA (cousin) on: Oct 03, 2014

I only met your mother a couple of times but she was always so charming and interesting. I can see she was a dedicated parent involved with her children and grandchildren over the years. She took real interest in her family and passed those qualities down to her own. She will be missed. - Posted by: Greg Dyck (Co-worker) on: Oct 02, 2014

My sympathiy to your family. I never met Joyce in all the years since the house was moved to its present location. But many times as I walked by there were things I noticed going on which made me feel neighborly towards Joyce. And her little white dog which my dog liked to see on the patio. Thankyou for sharing her story. Now I feel as if I did know her in person. - Posted by: bette serger (neighbor at 716 pasadena ave.) on: Sep 30, 2014
