SHIRLEY JUNE PATERSON With great sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother on September 27, 2014 at the Stonewall Hospital with family by her side. Mom will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her children: Kim, Scott (Candyce), and Mary Jane (John) all from Stonewall; grandchildren: John (Edel) and Cheryl (Gord), and great-granddaughters: Toni, Sophie and Harvest. Mom was predeceased by her husband of 60 plus years in 2013, Ralph; sister Vade, and brother Alfred. Mom was born in Winnipeg and grew up in Balmoral with her siblings where her dad was the Canadian Pacific Rail agent. Mom married Dad on Valentine's Day in 1953. Together they raised three children and spent over 60 loving years together. The majority of their lives together were spent living on the farm outside of Stonewall. Dad and Mom enjoyed many travels including: the East and West coast, Alaska, Arizona, Florida and Mexico. Many a trip was taken to Clear Lake during the summer and numerous drives out to the kid's farms for a visit and cup of coffee. She loved to garden, sew, crochet, knit, bake, can and cook. But most of all she loved to quilt. Many beautiful quilts were made by her hand and she made sure each of us kids and grandkids had a quilt made by her with love. However, Mom's cooking and baking skills were top notch as well and she often entered her baking in the Stonewall Fair and her scone recipe was much in demand. Sunday dinner always guaranteed roast chicken with crab apple jelly or roast beef with Yorkshire pudding. Mom dedicated her life to her family, making sure they were taken care of and that they were safe, healthy and happy. She was always there to encourage and support us. Once Dad passed away last fall, we kids made sure to do the same for her. Mom was able to live in her home in Stonewall with the aid of family, friends, neighbours and caregivers until a week before her passing. Funeral service will be held at the Stonewall United Church, 369 - 1st Avenue North on Thursday, October 2 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mom's memory to the IRHA Palliative Care or the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba. Mom's family would like to express their gratitude to Mom's caregivers and wonderful neighbours who in the past year enabled her to stay in the home she loved. The family also wishes to give special thanks to the Stonewall Emergency Response Unit and the supportive staff at the Stonewall and District Health Centre.
