I just learned that Howie had passed on when I went to visit him at Hospice today. Though I only knew Howie for the past year, he had become a good friend during that time. He was a fascinating character with a number of hobbies and interests that he continued to pursue during his final year. He obviously treasured his relationships with Karyn and his good friends. He was down to earth, a straight-shooter, with a lively sense of humour. During this last year, Howie expressed a desire to resolve and deepen his faith quest. As his Chaplain (until I retired in August), I was delighted to walk with him through this. I was thrilled when he told me that he fully embraced his faith in Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord. He was very open to talk about it, and tried hard (and did well) to live out a considerate and loving and forgiving lifestyle at Hospice. He was a pleasure to chat with. I am really going to miss Howie, but I am confident that right now he is in Heaven, free of the pain and struggles of life, rejoicing in the presence of God, and anticipating reunion with his loved ones. Howie, I'm sad I can't just go to visit you, but I'm relieved your battle is over, and I'm so glad I'll get to see you again some day! - Posted by: Roy Dueck (Chaplain - Grace Hospice) on: Oct 21, 2014

I was so saddened to hear about Howie's passing. I have many happy memories of Howie back in the day when we all partied too much. He was a joy to be around and was a good, kind person. Rest in Peace Howie. - Posted by: Lois Verfaillie (Friend) on: Oct 04, 2014
