WILLIAM FRANK ACHESON Peacefully on September 30, 2014 William Frank Acheson passed away at Seven Oaks Hospital in Winnipeg. Bill was predeceased by his dear wife Edith Evelyn (Judy), by his son Bill (Alma), by his sisters Ann Wallace (Gerry), Vivian McQuarrie (Gord), and his parents William and Stella Acheson. Bill is survived by his two daughters, Peggy Bainard Acheson of Winnipeg, and Sue Acheson of Vancouver. He will be sorely missed by his sister Dorothy Sargent (Ken), and his brother Tom Acheson (Stephanie), and by his grandchildren Anita Brandt (David), Ellen Johannesen (Chris Whittle), Bill Acheson Junior, and David Johannesen as well as his four great-grandchildren Kayla, Nicholas and Grace Brandt, and Jack Bang Whittle. Born in Copper Cliff, Ontario on January 18, 1921, Bill spent happy childhood years there before attending university in Kingston, Ontario. Bill spent several years in the radio business as a radio announcer in Timmins and Sudbury. At CKSO in Sudbury he worked as an announcer and program director and it is there he met the love of his life, Judy, with whom he married and settled down in 1947. Switching to the life insurance business, Bill worked for the Great-West Life and North American Life. He moved his family to Winnipeg in 1955 and spent a long career there as manager of the NALACO Winnipeg office. After retirement Bill and Judy moved to Abbotsford, BC in 1987 and then later to White Rock, where they had a very active social life playing bridge and travelling the world. After Judy passed away in 2009, Bill spent a year in White Rock, and then moved to Winnipeg to be closer to family. Bill was very devoted to his family and friends and will be remembered for his love of games and good times. His enthusiasm and humour were infectious and he always had a joke or comment to amuse us. He was also very fond of golf, card games, family pets and animals in general. In his later years he enjoyed painting classes at the Bronx Community Club. A service of remembrance was held at the Neil Bardal Funeral Centre at 3030 Notre Dame in Winnipeg on October 3, 2014. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB, R3T 9Z9 or a charity of choice. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Peggy and Family - A face says a thousand words... - your father's picture triggered my memory of meeting your parents at Hap's funeral and afterwards - we had a lovely lunch together at Cortina Pizza, of course, time we spent together was short, but I do remember how wonderful your parents were. Although we kept in touch by mail and via telephone, it's unfortunate we couldnt've spent more quality time. Deepest sympathy. • We are very sorry for your loss of a great man. He was such a gentle soul. It was such a shock to see his notice in the paper when we just saw him in September. We are very very sorry. - Posted by: Dianne Lubinski (Winnipeg Hearing Centres) on: Oct 07, 2014
