DOMINADOR (DOMING) GRAYDA
Born: Jan 28, 1925
Date of Passing: Oct 02, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOMINADOR (DOMING) GRAYDA 1925 - 2014 The Grayda family says goodbye to its patriarch, Dominador "Doming" Grayda, who passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 2, 2014 in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of 89. Dominador's presence will be profoundly missed because it was a powerful one, marked by actions more than words and guided by an unwavering sense of duty. The Grayda family would like to thank the staff of the 5th Floor, Unit 5 Seven Oaks General Hospital, the employees of Fred Douglas Lodge, and the home care providers of the WRHA. Dominador was born January 28, 1925 in Bulan, Sorsogon, Philippines to Modesto Grayda and Macaria Gepulle. He was one of six siblings. During the Second World War, Dominador fought with the guerrillas against the Japanese and later joined the Philippine Scouts of the United States Army as a Supply Sergeant. "Doming" had the good fortune of serving with Rodrigo "Uding" Gonzales, who would eventually become his brother-in-law. One day, Rodrigo showed Dominador a photo of Silvina Gonzales, his sister. Dominador and Silvina became pen pals before falling in love and marrying in 1947. They were married for 67 years and were blessed with six children. The family immigrated to Canada in 1971, where Dominador once again became a man in uniform - a quality that Silvina admits formed part of her initial attraction to him - after joining the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires, where he worked until retiring at the age of 75 following a stroke. Whether as an enlisted man or a commissionaire, Dominador's life was dedicated to serving. This resonated with his children, who followed his example and established careers in the fields of health, technology, public works and social work. Dominador's effect on his 14 grandchildren was also undeniable, with each one determined during visits with their "Lolo" to get him to smile and laugh. These were treasured signs of affection from a reserved man who led with dignity and strength. In his spare time, Dominador would most often be found outdoors, hunting, fishing and gardening. He also loved his Filipino food, looking forward to meals of "kare kare" and "isda" with family and friends, and was very proud to have had a new house built for Silvina in 1987. Dominador will be missed by many loved ones, including wife Silvina, sisters Lolita and Victoria, son Leandro, daughters Emma, Elizabeth, Natividad and Naomi, grandchildren Hans, Kathy, Christina, Ian, David, Jaimie, Jonathan, Scott, Jennifer, Chantal, Tristan, Aubrey, Christine and Damien, several nephews and nieces, and a whole new generation of great-grandchildren. He follows from this world his parents, sisters Presentacion and Celerina, brother Nilo, and daughter Lenore. A funeral service for Dominador "Doming" Grayda will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, please donate to either the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba or the St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church Building a New Church Campaign (BANC).
