I was recently looking at photos and videos of "days gone by…" where our parents, aunts and uncles were "young" with lots of little children running around them… many memories of outings to the "country" came back, including the wonderful times we Dyck kids experienced at Auntie Mary and Uncle John's farm… Auntie Mary was such a positive, happy, sweet lady … her home was neat as a pin, and it was such a nice adventure exploring the farm, the barn, seeing the animals… I remember one day getting to miss saturday morning German school, so we could experience pig butchering… the whole thing… still vivid in my mind… or climbing the crab apple trees, and Auntie Mary explaining that when you ate beans was a good day to work outside in the fields… she had a great sense of humour… and we girls, felt super lucky to have custom made "lingerie," and Brenda… remember those purple miniskirts we wore to your wedding? Though we're scattered across the globe now, it's nice to think of all the fond childhood memories we experienced, and the genuinely nice people we got to know along the way. Auntie Mary's kind, thoughtful smile will always be remembered. Condolences to Brenda & Tom and families. Aunty Mary was always welcoming to the extended family and learning about life on the farm was great for those of us who were "city Kids". I too remember learning about churning butter like my cousin Bruce. One of my fondest memories is family get togethers and home made waffles on the little portable wood fired waffle maker, complete with white sauce. They were a real treat. Our sincere condolences to Brenda & Marcel, and Tom. From Australia, Maureen Woolford ( nee Dyck) - Posted by: Maureen Woolford (nee Dyck) (niece ) on: Oct 13, 2014

Our grandparents were very close to Mary and John. Their farm was just down the road. She was always welcoming and loving. We spent many hours playing with Brenda and Marcel. - Posted by: Darlene Martin nee Harder (relation) on: Oct 10, 2014

I have some great memories of Mary over the years. She was a wonderful person. Am very happy that we had a chance to visit with her this summer. She was playing BINGO when we got there. My sincere condolences to her family. - Posted by: elleanor klassen (friend/relative. . ) on: Oct 10, 2014

Our deepest condolences to Mary's family. Though we did not get to know her well, she was here only a short time and then was unable to come anymore, we appreciated her cheery smile and gently nature. - Posted by: Martha Friesen (friend from church) on: Oct 10, 2014

Mary was like a daughter to my mother Susan Harder and a sister to me. In 1946 when our Mother was hospitalized for 6 wks. she looked after my Dad, four brothers, a hired hand and myself. She gardened, canned, cooked, and cleaned. No electricity or running hot cold water. She always claimed Dad paid her top wages - - $40/mo. That fall, Oct. 20, she married John Wiebe. She cut my hair until I moved to B.C. in 1960 and sewed for me long after I was married. To the Harder family she was and will always remain very special. And yes Mary I forgive you for spanking me when I was eight.!!!!! - Posted by: Lorna (Harder) Kuhlmann (Double Cousin) on: Oct 10, 2014

Sad to learn of Aunt Mary's passing. I have fond memories of visiting John & Mary's farm. As a city kid, this was my exposure to farm life. I enjoyed the animals & all the giant farm equipment. Aunt Mary taught us how to churn home made ice cream. Aunt Mary was quick with a smile. She had a wonderful kind nature. Our sincere condolences to the family. I have many fond memories of Mary. I worked with her at Suz-Inn in Morris many years ago. There was always a lot of laughter when Mary was around - she liked having fun. Also played a lot of Yahtzee with Mary and Susan. Good memories! My sincere condolences to all of Mary's Family........Deb Klassen (Friend/Relative) - Posted by: Deb Klassen (Friend/Relative) on: Oct 09, 2014
